Winnie's Story

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area.

NAME: Winnie
GENDER: Female (Will Be Spayed)
AGE: About 2 years
WEIGHT: About 6.5 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Good with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be fine with children 8 and older

Meet beautiful Winnie! Winnie will capture your heart, we know you will love her.

Winnie was found dumped on a country road in Princeton Texas (north of Dallas). She had no collar, no tags and no microchip. The Good Samaritans who found her looked for her family for a month with no luck. They then reached out to CRT to ask if we could bring her into our program and find her a forever home. We are happy to help. She is a sweetheart.

Winnie is a sweet girl that’s not too demanding. Winnie settled into the pack in her foster home easily. She gets along with the other small dog in her foster home. Winnie likes to initiate play. She wants to have fun and run and tumble. Winnie loves the outdoors and would like to have a nice fenced in yard to play in. She LOVES to explore the backyard area. Winnie also loves toys and hopes her new family has a large toy box.

Winnie is curious when she meets new people. And when she gets to know you, she is your BFF. She LOVES her foster family. She enjoys lap time where she can enjoy snuggles and belly rubs. Winnie follows her foster family from room to room because she doesn’t want to miss a moment with you. Note she moves quickly, and can be a tripping hazard if she gets too close to your feet. Winnie is fairly quiet (she will alert if she hears noises she does not recognize, but settles down quickly.). When you are ready to relax for the evening and watch some TV, Winnie wants you to play with her first. She will grab a toy, throw it into the air and catch it and bring it to you so you can play together. Once she has enjoyed play time with you, Winnie will crawl up on your lap and enjoy a few quiet moments together with you.

Winnie is about 2 years old. She weighs 6.5 pounds, which is a great weight for her. Winnie has a beautiful chocolate brown coat with tan highlights. We love the way her ears stand to attention when you gently call her name.

Winnie is very smart. Winnie has done well with her potty training. We take her outside every few hours. She has not had an accident for a few weeks! At night she will sleep in her crate. She goes in on her own when it is time for bed, and sleeps quietly through the night. We have begun to take Winnie on walks with a harness and a leash. We have noticed she is afraid of cars and loud noises, so we are continuing to work with her so she feels more comfortable in those situations.

The ideal home for Winnie would be one with high to moderate energy. She would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-3 years) to play with. She needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). There are no children in her foster home but we think she would do fine with older, mature children 8 and older.

Winnie is a very sweet and gentle dog that wants to be loved, and will love you back.

Winnie is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Note: it works best when our application is filled out on a computer versus a phone or tablet. When the application submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. If you do not receive a copy into your email que, it did not submit. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Winnie will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. Her vetwork will be completed in early March and she will be ready for a forever home at that time. We are taking applications now.

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
