Winnie's Story

Meet Winnie
Senior Dachshund | ~9 years young | Sweet, Lovebug

Winnie is a lovable 9-year-old dachshund currently being fostered in Sacramento through Dachshunds and Friends Rescue (featured on @sactown.fosters on Instagram and TikTok.)

She’s been on an inspiring health journey the past 10 months, to reach her best weight as she was roughly 30lbs upon entering rescue. In the meantime, Winnie has enjoyed every soft bed, fluffy blanket, and gentle belly rub along the way. She now weighs around 17lbs.

Winnie’s perfect day includes:
- Cozy cuddles with her people
- Easy strolls at her pace (which is sometimes a bit of a gallup as the girl gets zoomies)
- Lounging in sunshine and soft blankets
- Making new doggy friends — she does great with gentle (small) pups!

(As a note, Winnie came into rescue as a bonded pair with a male senior, named Cooper. Cooper passed on Thanksgiving after a courageous battle with cancer, however, Winnie has done well adjusting and enjoys spending time alone on adventures with her foster parents or lounging at home with her fosters’ resident dog of similar size. When with a larger dog, she has been a bit bossy and loud.)

This sweet senior reminds us why older dogs are the best—full of life and full of love. Winnie would thrive in a patient home where she can soak up comfort and be close to her person most of the day. While she enjoys a mellow day, she would also thrive with access to a yard to zoom around and explore.

Winnie’s adoption fee is $250. If you are ready to give this sweet senior her forever home, please fill out an adoption application at

https://www.dachshundsandfriends.org/
