Meet Winky
W.A.R.M. had an emergency plea for a momma dog who couldn't feed her pups that showed up to a house in a very rural area. When our volunteer went to pick her up, Winky came walking up behind her. As soon as the volunteer saw Winky had an injured eye, she knew she couldn't leave the dog behind. According to the person who lived there, Winky wandered up to the same house as a stray a few days before the momma dog had her pups. As submissive as she is, she protected this momma from another stray that was an aggressive male. We think this is how her eye was injured. It has healed amazingly on its own and does not need to be stitched up. She just needs lubricating eye drops 3x a day until it's completely healed. This is why she is marked special needs, it's temporary but necessary.
Winky was literally thrown into the world that day. It was her first car ride, first vet visit, first time on a leash, first time getting flea meds on her back, first time going through gates, first time in a building, kennel and crate. It was obvious she had lived her life outside. She was nervous of EVERYTHING but she got through it trusting the volunteers who offered lots of treats for reinforcement. It was amazing to see this scared dog power through her fears trusting strangers. It only took 1 day for her to start giving us kisses.
She is such a sweet girl and she loves to meet new people. Her adopters need to know that she knows nothing about living in a home, so she will need their patience to learn. However, she is a quick learner and is already doing great walking on a leash and crate training. She likes dogs of all sizes, is curious but skeptic of cats and likes kids. However, she is very skittish of loud noises so we recommend a home with big kids. New things scare her, if she is outside she will try to bolt. If she's inside, she will cower and hide. So she needs a family who will understand, have a tight grip on her all times while walking and take the time to show her the world isn't as scary as her past has been.
