Windy Girl's Story
Three dogs were found dumped near a busy road in Bakersfield, CA.

Sully, the male, was the first they were able to catch, but Windy, the female, was much more cautious. The rescuers didn’t give up, and after a long, windy day, they finally got her to safety. Everyone was overjoyed to have saved two of them. Sadly, the third dog never turned up, and it’s unknown if they survived.

Unfortunately, this is an all-too-familiar story. Bakersfield is currently facing a severe stray and shelter overcrowding crisis. Many dogs in the area are abandoned, living on the streets, or entering shelters that are far beyond capacity, leaving them at constant risk with very few chances for safety. That is why, over the years, we at Shelter Hope have taken in thousands of dogs from Bakersfield—now including Windy and Sully, ready to begin their new chapters.

About 2 years old and 13 lbs, Windy Girl is on the shy side and is taking her time adjusting to her new environment. She has a gentle demeanor and enjoys soft pets, quiet moments, and curling up in her little bed, where she feels most at ease. Everything is still new, and she’s moving at a pace that feels right for her. She does well with other dogs and enjoys cuddles and snuggles once she feels comfortable.

As Windy Girl continues to settle in, we’re discovering more of her personality each day. With patience, kindness, and a calm home, she has all the potential to grow into a deeply devoted companion.

-------

Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire!
