Wilson's Story

CUTE BUT COMPLICATED!!! LOOKING FOR A VERY SPECIAL ADOPTER!!!
Wilson was found abandoned in central California. He was filthy, unkempt and encrusted with foxtails. He was also partially blind. He still is.
Wilson is - we are guessing here - a poodle/Beagle/Maltese cross with very strong scent drive and an ever-wagging stern (backside). He is only about a year and a half old, and he has juvenile cataracts which are slowly REabsorbing according to the veterinary specialists. The prognosis is he will eventually regain LONG distance vision - perhaps completely. In the meantime, he gets anti-inflammatory eye drops daily and will need eye checks with a veterinary opthalmologist every 6 months. That's the easy part.
Wilson is really terrified of strangers. His deep and abiding affection can be easily bought with patience and string cheese, but patience is required. The good parts are that he loves traveling in the car, walks well on leash (hikes only, we have not done any urban walking), and has excellent off-leash recall. He also crates well and patiently and is easy to groom. He has a very soft coat and needs regular and frequent grooming!!! He plays very well with MOST other dogs, but he can be dog-selective with large breed male dogs.
The bad part is he loves to mark and will probably need a belly band in the house indefinitely. Very much a leg popper. He is also highly prey-driven around livestock. NO goats, please.
Wilson is vaccinated and tested negative for heart worm. He is neutered and has had his nails trimmed on a regular basis while in foster care. Once he has bonded with his person, he is very easy to handle. He loves treats, playing with toys, going hiking and wrestling with his dog friends.
Wilson is in foster care in the Portland area. His adoption fee is $200. SECURE FENCING AND PATIENCE ARE A MUST.

Jack Russell Rescue Oregon Washington & Idaho's Adoption Policy
We require an approved application before setting up a meet with any of our dogs. In most cases, secure fencing is a must - exceptions may be made for certain "Velcro" dogs and isolated rural properties, or for urban adopters who run daily. Except for certain dogs, no kids under the age of 6 is our rule of thumb, but it depends again on the dog and on the kids. We have a 2 to 3 week trial adoption period for all our dogs - we want everyone to be happy - and we back our dogs up for their lifetimes. Thank you for thinking of a rescue Jack!
