Wilma's Story

Wilma
10yr old Husky mix

Wilma
10yr old Husky mix

I am getting older and my sight and hearing aren't what they used to be. I run into things and am nervous with loud noises and fast movements. It takes me time to get used to my environment and new things. I get a bit nervous when left alone, but do really well if I have another canine companion close by to help me feel secure.

That being said, I am told that I am a very gentle old soul. I will need a routine and someone with patience to gain my trust. I am crate/kennel trained and am a very easy-going girl.

My foster mom says that I can be a picky eater. Sometimes I eat both meals and usually prefer soft treats and liver over hard treats. I love freeze dried treats and chicken. The couch is my favourite spot, aside from my bed. I am told that I am a good girl for bath and nail trims, just a bit nervous.
I would be suited in a home with other dogs who are calm. With that being said, I was boss lady in my group of friends. All of the young dogs listened to me and did not mess with me. I respond well to my name and can recall to a whistle, as long as there isn't too much background noise. Sometimes I can't hear you so don't always come...

My foster home has two adult cats and one kitten and I generally try to keep my distance from them. They don't interest me.

I am okay on leash, but I do still have a pulling mentality due to my husky nature. I absolutely love walks and being outside. I also enjoy eating snow and don't mind meeting new dogs on walks. I do get confused and could use some leash training. I enjoy having a dog walking companion to help me know where I am and am really good at checking in with my foster sister during walks to make sure that she is still there.
Wilma has come a long way and if the right person is kind, and patient, she will be the perfect companion. It only takes her a few days to get into her routine. It helps her with her nervousness to know what is coming next. We love Wilma and hope whoever ends up with her sees what a special sweet girl she is. She deserves a nice couch to curl up on, and endless love. Her foster mom thinks that she will do best in a home with another adult dog who will be patient with her and will help her to know the rules. She takes some time to adjust to new situations, so will need a family that understands it will take time to get use to a new routine.

The adoption fee is $600 and includes spay/neuter (dogs over 6 months), vaccines, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), deworming, Flea and tick prevention and microchip. Please visit www.paws-united.com to fill out an application.
**For puppies under 6 months a $200 spay/neuter rebate will be given with proof of spay/neuter certificate signed by a vet, if they have not been done prior to adoption.**
**Please note we DO NOT adopt our dogs as outdoor/farm dogs. These dogs are coming to us as stray, roaming or dogs that have lived a life tied to a chain. Our goal is to bring them in the house off the chain and give them a pampered indoor dogs lifestyle. Unless otherwise stated we will not even consider a home that has intentions of leaving our dogs outdoors or tied to a chain**
***We do require every applicant to provide a vet reference and we do follow up with your vet. If you do not currently have a vet as you have no pets, we strongly encourage you to do your research and contact vets to make sure they are accepting new patients. You must have a vet in place before bringing a new dog home. You will be required to give your vet permission to release information to us, we also require two personal references as well that will be contacted. We have policy and procedure in place while screening homes. If a family refuses any step in the process they will not qualify for adoption. We are not currently doing adoptions across the boarder.***

It helps pay for food, vet bills and any other expenses that the dogs require while in foster care with Paws United Dog Rescue. Each dog goes to their new home after being vet checked and vaccinated. Any dog over the age of 6 months has also been spayed/neutered and micro-chipped. All dogs over the age of 6 months have also been heart-worm tested. All adopters will receive a medical history and be made aware of any behaviour problems and any known history from before the dog came to us.
