Wilma's Story
Wilma is a big, beautiful baby with oversized paws, soulful eyes, and a whole lot of growing left to do-both physically and emotionally. At around 4 months old and already 30 lbs, this black and tan mixed breed girl is going to be a large dog, and she's just getting started. Beneath her size is a sweet, curious puppy who is ready to learn what it means to be part of a family.

HISTORY
Wilma and her sister were found dumped in Eastern Washington at the beginning of March. With no known history prior to that, it's likely she spent much of her early life outdoors without the structure or exposure most puppies receive.

Her breed is a best guess-she appears to be a mix of Rottweiler, Doberman, and possibly other large breeds (a true "super mutt"). Her DOB is estimated based on her age at intake.

Wilma is now safe in foster care in Tri-Cities, Eastern Washington, where she's beginning her journey of learning what life indoors looks like. We share our dogs in other locations to give them the best chance at finding the right home. Wilma is absolutely worth the trip, and we encourage meet-and-greets for approved adopters.

SOCIALIZATION, TEMPERAMENT AND TRAINING
Wilma is very much a puppy who is just starting from scratch. Having been primarily outdoors, she is still learning all the basics-what a home is, how to relax inside, and how to interact in a human-centered environment.

She is sweet-natured and curious, taking in new experiences with a mix of caution and interest. As she gains confidence, her personality continues to come out more each day.

Wilma will need a home that understands she is essentially starting at square one. House training, crate training, leash walking, and general manners are all things she is currently learning or will need to learn. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement will be key in helping her succeed.

Because of her size and expected growth, Wilma would benefit greatly from early training and structure. Puppy classes will be incredibly important for her-not just for skills, but for confidence-building and proper socialization.

She would do best in a home that is prepared for a large breed puppy and can provide both physical outlets and mental enrichment as she grows. Continued exposure to new environments, people, and experiences will help her become a well-adjusted adult.

Wilma is just a baby; she is young and eager to learn how to be a good family dog. She'd love you to take her to school so she can learn ALL the skills she needs to be her best self. This would be beneficial for you as her pet parent(s) as well so that you can learn to communicate effectively with her and teach her to be confident.

It's important to remember: Wilma is a puppy, and PUPPIES ARE HARD WORK! This little one is just getting started - she has sharp nails and needle teeth and loves to pounce on shoes and grab hold and tug on anything that moves! As far as she's concerned, anything and everything is for play. She still has everything to learn about being a civilized member of a mainly human family. She will trip you up, piddle on your rug, and chew your stuff. Please don't apply to adopt Wilma unless you're sure you have the time, energy and desire to raise her right!

HEALTH STATUS

General info
Wilma is up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, and dewormed. She appears to be a healthy, growing large breed puppy and is currently around 30 lbs with more growing to do.

HART does not support pediatric spay/neuter, so Wilma has not yet been sterilized. As part of the adoption contract, you will be required to have her sterilized by 6 months of age. HART will refund $100 upon receiving proof of sterilization if requested.

ADOPTION
The adoption fee for Wilma is $425. Our process starts with an online application and may take a few days to a week to complete. We appreciate your patience while we do our part.

To apply to adopt Wilma, please complete our online adoption application at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAWA-A-107 or email HearthfireART@gmail.com to request an adoption application form.

HART dogs live in foster homes, not in a kennel facility. To respect our fosters' privacy, we make our dogs available to meet adopters only after an adoption has been approved.
