WILLOW - SMALL DOG ALERT LOCATED IN MAINE's Story

Welcome Back, Sweet WILLOW!

Caleb’s Opus is welcoming WILLOW back into our care—and while this wasn’t the path we hoped for her, we are committed to making sure it becomes the right one.

WILLOW was one of five discarded souls found wandering a remote mountain road in the South—hungry, scared, and completely forgotten. Sadly, their story is all too familiar… dogs thrown away like trash, left to fend for themselves in a world that failed them.

At just 9 weeks old, WILLOW and her siblings arrived with us in September 2025, full of hope and ready to begin their happy lives. While WILLOW was adopted, her placement ultimately wasn’t the right fit—and sometimes love alone isn’t enough without the right structure.

Here’s what we know about WILLOW:

- She loves people
- She loves other dogs
- She knows her basic commands
- She is smart, confident, and determined

From her Foster Mom: "WILLOW is a snuggle-bunny who loves her people. Going upstairs to work in your home office? Here comes your eight-month-old, 25-pound co-worker to keep you company. Heading into the kitchen to whip up lunch? Miss WILLOW trots in behind you to lie at your feet and be near you, and maybe score a wayward piece of something tasty. Coming out of your bedroom after getting dressed, your official morning greeter is stalking the door waiting for you. She lets you know when she has to go out by hovering around the door. She’s pretty good on a leash for walks. And she likes playing with other dogs. Basically, if you look up velcro dog in the dictionary, her picture is there. WILLOW has been working on being a little more gentle when taking treats from your hand, and that your fingers are not a chew toy. She does her business outside and knows the “sit” command. She’s so smart, and learns quickly."

WILLOW has been through basic training and the trainer said he is "Amazed how quickly WILLOW picked up the things he taught her in one session. She did excellent! Her basic obedience, drive and engagement is stellar. She is very bright and motivated." WILLOW needs continued positive training, consistency, and leadership to help her feel secure enough to let go of that need to be in charge.

WILLOW is now 7 months old, weighs about 25 lbs, and we don’t expect her to get much bigger.

She has already survived so much. She doesn’t need perfection—she needs patience, commitment, and someone willing to invest in her future.

Could you be WILLOW’S forever home? Please go to www.calebsopus.org for an application!

All dogs are spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. Note: Caleb's Opus is licensed to adopt in the State of Maine.
