Wiley's Story

Wiley was found by a good Samaritan. He is very thin and starved. Once Wiley arrived at the vet we found out that he has a Diaphragmatic hernia- his liver was in his chest. Although he wasn’t the best candidate for surgery it was necessary to do it then because he was rapidly declining. He came through surgery well. He did spend one night at the emergency clinic since the surgery went into the evening and he needed further observation. They did have to remove more fluid off his chest early in the morning at the emergency clinic, but has not had more accumulate since. He is eating well and we are starting to see him feel better and stronger. On top of everything this little guy is going through he is HW+ (but may be able to consider treating with Heartgard rather than Immiticide). They said that he is such a good boy and that even through all this, he is so loving.

Since arriving at GLWR Wiley has made himself to home here. He is wonderful in his crate and very social and playful with the other dogs and people in his new foster home. He is a very energetic large boy and he is slowing gaining the weight he needs and is starting to blossom. His recovery is going quite well and he is on the mend. In order to make sure he has the best chance at a new life Wiley will spend some extra time here at GLWR to give him ample to recuperate and ensure his health is top notch when he goes to his "forever" home. He will be going in for his medical check up soon to determine if he is able and ready to start his HW treatment yet.

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all volunteer, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue and placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.

Please visit our website at www.GreatLakesWeimRescue.com to see a complete list of weims that are waiting for their forever homes!

The availability status of any Weimaraner listed on our site is subject to change without notice. Please contact our

Adoption and Applications Coordinator for current availability status.
