Wile found himself landed in an Ontario shelter. Brought in by a good samaritan with a total of 3 dogs, "found as strays", it's believe the owner is the "good samaritan"<br/><br/>Wile struggled HARD in the shelter setting and was facing euthanasia, simply because he was self harming and his mental health was declining quickly. <br/><br/>Sedation in the shelter wasn't working and Wile needed help FAST!<br/><br/>His Ontario shelter begged the rescue community to step up and welcome Wile. <br/>".... staff coming in some days to a bloody kennel in the mornings. Does not do well with confinement, tries to claw/bite his way out of his kennel and will hurt himself doing so. URGENT, This senior boy is EXTREMELY stressed. The shelter can't let him suffer, and hurt himself much longer."<br/><br/>Mattie's Place agreed to welcome Wile.<br/><br/>Wile was brought straight to my veterinarian from the shelter to have a dental completed. The shelter had him up to date otherwise. We started him on anxiety medication: Clomicalm<br/><br/>Wile has a given DOB: May 17, 2019. He weighed in on arrival at 40 pounds, but was underweight and should likely be sitting at a healthy 50 pounds, which we're working towards.<br/><br/>Wile is so gentle and kind. Just a really, really sweet, good boy, wanting love and to give that love right back.<br/><br/>One of the other dogs he was found with, that looks exactly like him, had a DNA test completed with their rescue and it came back as 50.4% Siberian Husky and 49.6% German Shepherd Dog via Embark DNA testing.<br/><br/>Wile does come with major crate/kennel phobia, so he's a dog that can never be crated or confined. He does well sleeping in his foster Mom's bedroom, on the floor, knowing she's near.<br/><br/>Wile would do best with a work from home or take your dog to work scenario. He really does love his humans an awful lot and having them home would make his heart happiest. That said, his foster family does leave him home, with the other resident dogs, and it's been a work in progress, but as of July 23rd, he's been fine up to 6 hours alone. He will wine a bit when they first leave, but he settles in nicely until their return. <br/><br/>He just has a fear of kennels or crates and panics with that confinement. <br/><br/>Since starting his medication, (Clomicalm), <br/><br/>The Clomicalm is not a lifetime requirement. It helps him for now, as he learns to settle into life. Post adoption, he can slowly be weaned when he's settled in, with the support of your veterinarian.<br/><br/>Wile does well with dogs. Given he's part husky, I wouldn't trust him with cats, small dogs or rabbits.<br/><br/>Wile has presumably had a life of struggles. In foster care, he's taking it all in, as though it were his 1st in life; toys, kind humans, good nutrition, comfy dog beds to sleep on and outdoor adventures. He's a work in progress and learning all the manners and rules companion pets need.<br/><br/>He goes to daycare daily with his Foster Mom and does amazing! <br/><br/>That said, his core is solid and he's a really good, sweet dog, willing to learn and eager to please his person.<br/><br/>Though Wile is great with all humans he meets, given his anxiety, a home with young kids will likely not be his vibe.<br/><br/>Are you the special human Wile has been waiting for? The human who will accept and love him for who he is and help him become the very best version of himself?<br/><br/><br/>FROM THE FOSTER:<br/><br/><br/>Wile arrived into foster care after leaving the stressful environment of a shelter, bouncy, excited and happy, with a smile that never leaves his face. He's been experiencing all his firsts, typically what a puppy would experience in their first year of life. <br/><br/>To say Wile enjoys mealtimes would be a gross understatement. He dances down the hall to where he eats. Seriously. His bowl is always clean and his Tom & Sawyer kibble toppers are amazing! The resident dogs are wondering why the new guy gets the good stuff <br/><br/>Because of his past and shelter history, Wile is not crated. He is 90% housetrained but if you're not watching or leave him before he's done his business, he may have an accident in the home. <br/><br/>Wile also likes to investigate what you have on the counter so best to keep those clear of temptation. <br/><br/>Outside Wile is a happy boy! He loves to roll in the grass! His somersaults are 10/10. He's also learning to play with the resident dogs, they all love to run and chase. He's also been interested in toys that squeak or have rattles in them. <br/><br/>Wile doesn't seem bothered when someone walks by the fence when the others alert the entire neighbourhood. On leash walks he does take notice of other walking dogs but has not reacted negatively. His leash skills need work because he wants to be touching you at all times, so can sometimes walk in a zigzag. <br/><br/>When the doorbell rings, he will run to the door but doesn't bark.<br/><br/>Because Wile is part husky, he's got amazing spring legs and can clear a 4 foot baby gate without much effort. He wants to be with you, wherever you are. Even bathroom breaks. He doesn't know what privacy or personal space are but dog people get that.<br/><br/>He loves his person and wants to be in eyesight at all times which also means he can be opinionated when another fur friend approaches you. Given time and patience, I believe his anxiety will lessen as he begins to trust and know he won't be abandoned again.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>$99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.
