Wickie's Story

This 3 pound, 10-12 week old Maltipoo type darling was found with no use of her rear legs and a nasty condition often called puppy strangles. Puppy strangles, or juvenile cellulitis, is an uncommon autoimmune skin condition in puppies aged 3 weeks to 4 months that causes facial swelling, pustules, and crusting skin lesions. The condition is triggered by an abnormal immune response and is characterized by symptoms like fever, lethargy, and enlarged lymph nodes. Prompt veterinary care is essential, as severe swelling affecting breathing or eating can be an emergency. Treatment typically involves corticosteroids and may include antibiotics, with a good prognosis for full recovery with timely treatment. Treatment for puppy strangles can be lengthy and we're looking forward to helping her continue to recover.

Applications at:

http://dogwoodanimalrescue.org/adoption-application-dogs/

You can follow us on social media at:

https://.www.instagram.com/dogwoodanimalrescue/
https://.www.facebook.com/.DogwoodAnimalRescue/

Making a difference, one animal at a time.
