UPDATE 9/3/26 - After bloodwork, an endoscopy that removed half of a large Kong toy, and a biopsy, all results point to IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome.) We have been giving him a hypoallergenic diet and are continuing to try different things to find the right combination of foods that will help Whiskey continue gaining weight. He was gaining and losing weight like a yoyo, but now that the Kong has been removed and we added Salmon to his diet, he finally seems to be on the right track. He currently weighs 62.5 pounds. <br/><br/>We are seeking a foster/adopter in hopes that his weight will continue to improve in a more calm environment. We will provide everything he needs and would be happy to show someone how to give his injections, which he takes well while licking peanut butter:) Whiskey currently takes a pill once a day and a B12 inection once a week.<br/><br/>May 2026 - Whiskey started losing weight on his already very skinny frame. To help him along, our vet has prescribed daily B12 injections, antibiotics, and a hypoallergenic diet. He is also being fed 3 times a day with slow feeders so he doesn't eat to quickly. <br/><br/>Whiskey was found in the woods while a family was hiking in Big Soddy Gulf and came right up to them asking for help. He was skin and bones and had obviously been loose for quite some time. His microchip led back to Walker County Animal Shelter, but the contact info for the owner was no longer current. <br/><br/>Whiskey looks to be a purebred German Shepherd. He is 5 years old and only weighed 61 pounds when he came in. He has a large frame and should weigh 80+ pounds. <br/><br/>Whiskey is very social and does want to be with kids. He has also been on several car trips and hikes and has done great around other dogs.
