Whiskey's Story
Whiskey is a 3-year, 5-month-old Pit Bull mix weighing approximately 72 pounds. He's a handsome, goofy, affectionate boy with a playful personality, but his story and his needs deserve some thoughtful consideration.

Whiskey originally came to our shelter following a cruelty seizure. He was severely emaciated and had been living in deplorable conditions. After recovering, he was adopted into a home where he received care, affection, and the opportunity to experience family life.

Unfortunately, as Whiskey settled into his home, he began displaying resource-guarding behaviors involving the adults in the household. These behaviors became increasingly concerning around the family's children, eventually progressing to growling when he heard them. His family worked hard to address these issues, but ultimately made the difficult decision to return him to the shelter for everyone's safety.

Whiskey has many wonderful qualities. He's sweet, goofy, playful, housebroken, crate-trained, and keeps his kennel tidy. He enjoys attention and has a fun personality that makes him a pleasure to spend time with.

However, his previous behavior means we must be very selective about his next home. Whiskey needs a quiet, predictable, adult-only environment, ideally with one experienced person who understands canine behavior and the importance of maintaining consistent boundaries and routines.

Whiskey needs to be the only pet in the home, with no children or cats. His adopter must understand that resource guarding could reappear and be open to seeking professional training assistance if concerns arise.

Whiskey deserves a home that is appropriate for his individual needs, and finding that match is our priority.

Whiskey has routine veterinary care scheduled this week.

Whiskey is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and heartworm tested with monthly preventatives started.

Apply to adopt at: https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
