Wheeler's Story

Meet Wheeler: Our Resilient Survivor (STAFF FAVORITE)

Wheeler is a brave, three-legged survivor with a heart of PURE gold. His journey began when he was brought into a high-kill shelter with a severe wound—his leg had been bound with duct tape to cover the huge hole in his leg - and his paw was cold to the touch. He needed an immediate rescue commitment or he would have to be put down. The minute we said yes, he went into surgery to remove his leg. We believe his injuries were from a dog attack, as he has scars covering most of his body.

Despite his history, Wheeler has adapted perfectly to life on three legs. He is a gentle, loving soul whose favorite activity is curling up on the couch for a nap with his favorite person. He is affectionate, gives sweet kisses, and looks to his humans for reassurance and guidance.

Wheeler is learning what it means to be a beloved pet. While he wasn't potty trained when he arrived, he has made incredible progress; he now only has occasional accidents in his kennel during extended periods.

He is very dog-friendly—perhaps a bit too enthusiastic at times! We believe this is hormonal, and we expect his upcoming neuter (scheduled for January 15th) to help settle these instincts.

With his big, soulful brown eyes and ears that stand tall, Wheeler is a little sweetheart. He is deeply grateful for safety, regular meals, and love. Wheeler is a wonderful companion who deserves a forever home that will cherish him for the rest of his life.

1 year old; 28 lbs

Redemption Tails Rescue's Adoption Policy
At Redemption Tails, our goal is simple: to find each dog a loving, forever home—one where they are truly a part of the family. That’s why we have a thorough adoption application process. We want to ensure the best possible match for both the dog and the adopter. These animals have already been through so much—they deserve stability, care, and commitment. If for any reason the match isn’t right, we require that the dog be returned to our care. We do not want any of our dogs to end up in unsafe situations or shelters. Their safety and well-being will always be our top priority.
