Wendy's Story

Rescue angels have been working for weeks to get this mama and her pup, Darla, to safety. Really it's been years of trying to find a place for mama.

Our awesome volunteers drove for many hours yesterday and stayed overnight to pick up this Doodle type mama and finally end a devastating cycle of litter after litter of puppies born out in a junkyard in the desert with little care. Mama Wendy is extremely unsocialized and has never been handled, but she's been out there for years, having litter after litter under vehicles. Her past pups have mostly been rescued.

One of her pups from her previous litter six months ago will be joining us as well, and mama is pregnant again. Because there are so many puppies already born and breathng, and waiting without hope and nowhere to go, we normally spay/abort whenever we can, even when they appear far along. In this case, the people who have been feeding/watering them are adamant that she not be aborted and wouldn't send her unless we agreed not to.

We are in a devastating overpopulation crisis and there are truly far too many animals and not enough homes already but we gave our word, so she will have her last ever litter in our loving care and then everyone will be spayed/neutered, finally ending the heartbreaking cycle for this family.

Mama is probably around 70 pounds when not pregnant and we're assuming her 6 month old pups will be around that size at maturity. Wendy will be available for adoption after she weans her, as yet unborn, pups.

Applications at:

http://dogwoodanimalrescue.org/adoption-application-dogs/

You can follow us on social media at:

https://.www.instagram.com/dogwoodanimalrescue/
https://.www.facebook.com/.DogwoodAnimalRescue/

Making a difference, one animal at a time.
