Watson's Story

Watson is an incredibly intelligent and cuddly pup that loves to run outside, fetch, and steal the occasional sock or shoe. Found abandoned in upper Manhattan in August 2024, Watson is estimated to be about 2 years old. He is 16 pounds and likely a mix of miniature schnauzer and terrier. Initially withdrawn around humans and dogs, Watson now diligently follows his rescue mom throughout the apartment and confidently plays with his older canine sibling. He loves treats and wants to learn; he sits and shakes on command and knows how to signal when he wants to go outside to potty.

Though Watson does well with his fur sibling and small dogs at the dog park, he is incredibly nervous and scared around larger dogs. He also displays leash reactivity on walks. Unfortunately, this has resulted in occasions where he lunges and attempts to bite other dogs. During his attempts to lunge at other dogs, he has accidentally nipped his rescuer.

Because of his leash reactivity, his current living situation is not tenable. On walks in the city, he is constantly on “high alert” and experiencing anxiety. Due to these behavioral challenges, his rescuer has made the difficult decision to re-home him. His rescuer wants to set him up for success and find him a home in which someone can help lessen his leash reactivity. Additionally, given Watson’s young age and high energy levels he would do best in a home with a yard or easy access to a park for small dogs. Because of Watson’s reactivity, he should not be placed in a home with children or cats.

He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
