Walter's Story
Meet Walter! Walter is a 14 year old male Poodle Mix who was surrendered by his family and is looking for a new forever home.

We will be looking for a very special & patient home for Walter, as we know that he might be even more confused at his age as to why his entire world is changing. Unfortunately his needs and social interactions were neglected in the recent years, and he spent most of his time in his kennel. It's heartbreaking to hear that, even when someone was home, he was left in there so long that he was no longer able to hold his potty and would have to soil himself. His coat/nails weren't being groomed, and he wasn't able to go for walks which caused some weakness in his back legs.

That being said, we absolutely recognize that it was the right thing to do when the family called us, and we applaud them for recognizing that Walter deserved a better situation for the remainder of his life. We were able to get him updated on vaccines & bloodwork, and will continue to learn more about him as we go. We're told that he's been around other dogs, cats & children, and that he was otherwise housebroken and crate trained. He's timid around Thunderstorms & Fireworks, and not the biggest fan of having his nails trimmed, but was a social, loving, cuddly lap dog. We know whomever adopts him will see the hidden gem of a senior dog once they allow him to settle and learn a new routine.

Walter greets us with a happy little wiggle-butt, and we can't wait for him to find a family who will devote their time to giving him the most wonderful retirement. If that's you, follow the link below! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved:
https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html

Walter's adoption fee is $240.
