Wallace's Story

Hi... I'm Wallace 🤎🐾

I'm a 1.5-year-old Black Mouth Cur / Shepherd mix, weighing about 40 pounds, with extra-soft black and brown fur and big, loving brown eyes. People say my eyes look right into your soul -- I think it's because I've been waiting a long time to truly belong to someone. 💕Before I came to the shelter, I lived in a hoarding situation with many other dogs. We mostly stayed outside and were fed, but I didn't get to learn how to be part of a family. I didn't really know how to play. I didn't know how cozy a warm bed could feel. I didn't know what it meant to have someone choose me. Because of that, I can still be a little shy with new people at first. Loud voices and fast movements make me nervous, but if you approach me with kind, soft-spoken words, calm reassurance, and maybe a few yummy treats... I warm up more and more every day. 🥹Once I know I'm safe, my silly and fun-loving personality starts to shine. I absolutely LOVE to run and play! Squeaky toys and crinkly toys are some of my favorite discoveries, and when I get excited, I do the cutest little tippy-tappy dance with my front paws because my happiness just spills right out of me. 🐾💃✨

I'm a very sweet boy who loves to be close to my people. Sitting at your feet, curling up beside you, or soaking up affection is my happy place. I also look pretty handsome in sweaters, if I do say so myself. 🧥😉 I've learned how to use a doggie door when given access, and I've done very well with crate training too. I get along wonderfully with other dogs, and honestly, I would thrive in a home with a confident canine friend to help show me that the world is safe and full of love. Having another dog around really helps build my confidence and brings out my playful side. I walk very nicely on a leash, especially if I have a dog buddy walking beside me too. 🐕💛 I haven't officially been tested with children yet, but because of my gentle nature, I would likely do well with calm and respectful kiddos. I'm especially wonderful with the elderly -- I'm tender-hearted, gentle, and perfectly content just sitting quietly beside someone I love.

I'm still learning the basics of being a family dog, but I'm highly intelligent, eager to please, and very food motivated, which makes training much easier. I do have a high energy level, so I'll need regular exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation to help keep my mind busy and prevent me from forming any undesirable habits. I'd make an amazing adventure buddy for walks, hikes, play sessions, and cozy evenings afterward on the couch. 🌲🎾More than anything, I'm hoping for a patient, loving home that understands shy dogs and is willing to help me continue building confidence at my own pace. In return, you'll get the sweetest velcro dog who will love you with his whole heart and look at you like you hung the moon. 🌙🤎I've spent my first year just surviving. Now I'm finally ready to belong. Could I be your Wallace? 🐾You can also call the shelter at 479-394-5682 to find out more about me.
****************
All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
