VIOLET's Story

After being abandoned, extremely pregnant, and alone, Violet was found and taken in by the Wood County Dog Shelter who transfered her to us shortly after. Together, we got Mama Violet a foster who helped her give birth to all 11 of her babies, helped her wean them from milk, and gave her some much needed love, care, and paitence in the meantime! After a long recovery from giving birth and a looong vet visit, Mama Violet is fully recovered, vetted, and ready for the chance at a home she's never gotten before! After everything she's been through, Violet is pretty weary of strangers and needs a little time to warm up before she‘ll show off her playful personality! Once she gets comfortable, however, you'll end up locked in Belly Rub Time for hours! Kids: Violet is very excitable so as long as the kids can handle her jumping, she’ll adore them to no end!

Dogs: Violet is dog selective and prefers a nice, slow introduction. Any loud or high-energy dogs might be too much for her.

Cats: We aren’t sure how Violet reacts to cats. Violet's adoption fee includes her spay, age appropriate vaccines, a microchip, heartworm test, and initial deworming. Wood County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
Each year, the Wood County Humane Society takes in an average of 1,000 animals. Most of those animals are stray cats, owner surrenders (cats and dogs), or cruelty or neglect cases (from fish to horses and everything in between!). On average, there are about 50 little faces at the shelter that are available for adoption and awaiting homes. Please fill out an adoption questionnaire and submit with your driver's license/state ID. * Adopters must be eighteen (18) years of age, and we would love to meet all family members or room mates prior to adoption. This allows family members and room mates to ask questions and participate in the adoption as well. * All of our pets have been spayed or neutered, receive core vaccines appropriate to their age, tested for heart worm and current on prevention in dogs, tested for FIV/FeLV in cats, received an initial de-worming and flea prevention, and a free physical exam to local participating veterinary offices. All of our pets are also microchipped prior to adoption. * If you rent an apartment, house, live in a trailer park, or are under a land contract, we strongly encourage you to have a conversation about wanting to adopt a pet with your landlord first, so they are aware, and can grant permission if they have pet restrictions, and so you are aware of any fees that are associated in bringing home your new pet. * We cannot guarantee breed, estimated size of puppies when full grown, or any other statements made on the website, at visits, or at our adoption events about our animals. * Adoptions are completed on a first come, first approved basis. *If you are adopting a cat, please bring a carrier to safely transport your new friend home, and if you are adopting a dog, please bring a collar and a leash. Carriers, collars, and leashes are available for a donation at our shelter.
