Valerie is the kind of dog who thrives in a calm environment and is always polite, yet her quirky side is bound to make you smile. She has a special talent for rolling around on the bed, snorting adorably, and spending hours watching squirrels through a sunny window. Valerie loves her walks, especially when they include lots of sniffing (she’s an expert at scent exploration) and, of course, treats!
Fully housetrained and easygoing, Valerie coexists peacefully with two very opinionated cats. While she’s respectful of their space, she does have a gentle way of letting them know if they get too close. When it comes to commands, she’s a star—Valerie responds quickly to “come,” “sit,” and “down,” and always enjoys a treat as her reward.
Valerie has done well with being left alone for up to 9 hours—though she’s a bit of a curious foodie, so we’ve solved her garbage-rummaging adventures with a simple baby gate in the kitchen. She’s also fine without a crate, so we're not sure how she would feel about one.
One of her most lovable qualities? She’s a total snuggler, but she’s never pushy—she waits until you invite her in for cuddles. If you’re looking for a sweet, easygoing dog with a good sense of humor and a loving heart, Valerie just might be the perfect fit for you!
Valerie may be a bit selective when it comes to her doggy friends, but with the right introductions, she’s sure to find her perfect pals. She walks well on a leash, though she can get excited when she spots another dog. A little leash training and the 'watch me' command would help her focus, and since she’s incredibly treat-motivated, she’ll likely pick it up quickly! Valerie can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but once she feels safe and comfortable, she bonds deeply and becomes a loyal, loving companion. If you're willing to work with her and build that trust, Valerie will be the devoted friend you’ve been looking for! Apply today and give Valerie the chance to show you just how wonderful she can be!

Currently she's on Dasuquin ($20/month), Flexadin ($25/month), Gabapentin ($11/month), and Previcox ($52/month) to manage her orthopedic pain.

or
When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.
Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.
How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.
Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.
Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.
If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
//
