Valerie's Story

Sweet couch potato Valerie NEEDS A HERO NOW!

She must be adopted or rescued by EOD Tuesday 1/27/2026 or this magical mama will be euthanized (as in killed) the next AM at the North Central Animal Shelter in Los Angeles.

Valerie first entered the LA shelter system almost a year ago in February 2025 where this sweet big girl quickly became a volunteer favorite.

Valerie is docile, charismatic, and loving. A gentle, affectionate and happy hippo. She’s 80lbs but walks on leash like a weightless fifteen. She’s 5-years-old but age ain’t nothing but a number if you look and love like Valerie. Valerie is the kind of dog who makes you happy the moment she places her heavy hippo head in your lap.

Unfortunately Valerie fell victim to some failed adoptions within the shelter system and was bounced from shelter to shelter because of it. First, she was adopted and returned after just six days for not getting along with the other dog in the home. Then she was transferred from the West LA Shelter to the West Valley Shelter where she was adopted again, only to be dumped at the North Central shelter by the adopter citing “no time” and a conflict with another dog.

Needless to say sweet Valerie has been through the ringer.

She’s taking it in stride and is making (volunteer) friends wherever she goes, but now the North Central Animal Shelter has listed Valerie to be killed due to being stressed out by her kennel environment. (This is a commonly used reason to kill dogs as a part of the shelter’s “population management” program.)

Valerie needs to be saved. Now.
This magical, gentle mama dog deserves her slice of the good life.
Valerie is best as the only dog in a home.

If interested in fostering or adopting Valerie
PLEASE CALL OR TEXT: (213)-445-4466
IN THE INTEREST OF TIME PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL.
