TWIG's Story

Sex: Female
Coat: smooth
Weight: 36lbs
Activity Level: Active pet
Gets along with Children: unknown
Gets along with Dogs: Good fit
Gets along with Cats: unknown
We are so fortunate to be fostering Twig for Carolina Border Collie Rescue (in fact, it went on my husband’s “Best of 2025” list).
She got herself in trouble. Twig was picked up as a stray “running someone else’s cattle”. That stint landed her in jail at a shelter on the NC/VA border. She came up on our radar and lucky us…and her!
We think Twig is 1.5-2 yrs old. She is a sweetheart. And she is beautiful with her svelte body decked out in a shiny smooth coat , one blue and one brown eye. She stands with an alert confirmation and gaze. She does not exhibit nipping nor herding tendencies. Not aggressive, likes people (shy at first) and other dogs. Cats: unknown.
Twig was very reserved when she arrived. It took six weeks for her to truly engage in play with my dogs. I expect that to be the case with her adopters. But it took only a few days for her to form a total, unbreakable bond with her foster mom. She is my shadow and absolutely lives to be close and adored by her person. With that said, she exhibits no separation anxiety when left alone.
This little girl likes to be spoken to in a soft steady voice. Even a “NO” must be spoken in that soft steady voice (she will still understand without the extra decibels). Otherwise, her whole day is ruined. She speaks to us with facial expressions. With a mere glance, we can sum up her current emotional state….happy, sad, content, status quo, confused, on alert, scared.
Twig is calm and quiet in the house. Sleeps through the night. Won’t play with toys. Just won’t. But she still seems to have some puppy in her because she runs off with items. Such as shoes, tools, broom.
She’s got watch dog expertise. We can rely on Twig to alert us when people, with or without dogs, are walking the hiking trail behind our property. She is easily called off…with that soft, steady voice of course.
Twig gets along with our dogs. She leaves her calm demeanor in the house and once outside is totally different. She plays with exuberance with our dogs. With so much gusto that it is likely to be intimidating to dogs smaller than she (36 lbs). Twig won’t play ball, but she does love to run and play defense after the dog who is chasing the ball. She loves exploring the woods off leash and stays close to her person. We do that several times a day, rain or shine unfortunately, but she needs it and so does her foster mom.
Twig knows a few commands. She knows a lot of words. She would know more commands if her learning strategy wasn’t to lay flat on her back glued to the ground. But…somehow she does learn….and she does it pretty quickly….somehow.
She walks well on a leash and rides in the car without sickness. Thunder and the vacuum cleaner make her uneasy, but not crazy.
Children? I know for sure she would not be aggressive nor nip. However, she would not feel comfortable to participate in kids’ activities because of the inherent commotion, noise and sudden sharp movements. Its just not up her alley.
As stated, Twig develops a deep loving bond with her person. I promised her she will be adopted by a person who reciprocates that love and adoration. She will need adequate exercise, which is more than 2 walks a day. A buddy to run and play with would be perfect…in a big yard so they can fly. No privacy fences please, visual stimulation is important for her.
Twig is housetrained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.
Questions are welcome at yhoroshak@hotmail.com
Twig is being fostered in West Grove, Pa 40 miles west of Philadelphia
Twig is located in West Grove, Pa. The foster parent will let you know if another application is required.

Carolina Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Carolina Border Collie Rescue (CBCR) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was established in 1991 by a group of dedicated volunteers to provide rescue, education, and counseling to prevent mistreatment and neglect of border collies in the Carolinas. Through the support of many dedicated volunteers and generous supporters, CBCR has become a successful and well-known all-volunteer foster-home-based rescue group. We have over 50 active volunteer members and utilize their talents to place an average of 40-50 dogs annually in new, permanent, and loving homes. Many of the dogs we rescue were abandoned at a shelter, found as a stray, or relinquished to us by their owners. Currently, CBCR covers NC, SC, VA, parts of GA, and TN. Dogs are fostered in our volunteer foster families’ homes which are mostly located in the Carolinas. All of CBCR’s dogs receive medical assessments and veterinary care, training, and of course lots of love from their foster families until they are ready to be adopted to their carefully selected home. Adoption fees: Puppy (up to 6mos old): $375, plus $75 refundable spay/neuter deposit ($450 total for unaltered puppies) Adult (6mos- 7yrs old): $300, plus $75 refundable spay/neuter deposit if unaltered. Senior + (7+ years) : $150 (includes chronic medical dogs
