Tux's Story

Tux is the dog everyone wishes they had! That's not just us bragging, but a statement made by a volunteer who has started fostering Tux on weekends. Tux is a 7-year-old, long-haired, black variety of the Belgian Sheepdog or shepherd. His is an intelligent, obedient, loyal and active herding breed which thrives on human interaction. On the weekend home visits, we found out that Tux is housebroken, crate-trained, great on car rides, quiet and calm, content hanging out in the fenced yard for hours, and excellent with dogs of various sizes and with the volunteer's granddaughters, 9 and 14. He did NOT display any food aggression, counter-surfing, or destructive behavior and played nicely with toys in both fetching and tug-of-war with other dogs. As a working breed, Tux needs plenty of exercise to thrive such as yard play with people or dogs or long walks/jogs. Our volunteer was able to walk him at the same time as her other 2 dogs and said he ignored distractions such as cars, kids on bikes, and dogs barking. His long, lustrous coat is "wash and wear and just needs regular brushing, an activity he adores. Our greatest hope is that some good soul who is looking for a large, friendly, intelligent, loyal dog will come in to meet him outside his kennel where they will finally see the REAL Tux-"the dog everyone wishes they had!
