Tula (CP)'s Story

***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico***

Hi, I'm Tula — and I've come a long way.

When the kind humans at Surfers for Strays first found me, I was completely shut down. My body was weak, my heart was heavy, and my eyes... well, they told the story of a life filled with pain. I had been wandering the streets of Zihuatanejo, pregnant, starving, and struggling to walk with three broken bones in my front leg and wrist.

But even through all that, something inside me whispered, “Don't give up.” And when my rescuer and an amazing donor gently reached out, I couldn't help but lean in. I was scared, but I felt safe for the first time in what felt like forever.

Since then, I've not only healed — I've blossomed.

I'm no longer the quiet, reserved girl I once was. I'm happy, bouncy, full of life, and always smiling! My legs have healed beautifully (though I probably shouldn't be anyone's running buddy or do high-impact sports like agility), and I now spend my days racing around the shelter with my friends, playing chase, and being part of every adventure. I'm medium-energy overall, but when it's playtime — I'm all in!

I've also discovered just how much I love humans! I'll be the first one to greet you at the gate, pushing through the welcome committee of my shelter mates with a huge smile and tail wags. I'll plop my front paws right into your lap, sneak in a face lick (or five), and do anything I can to soak up the love. I'm not shy about it anymore — I'm here for the cuddles and I'm not afraid to ask for them!

I get along well with the other dogs at the shelter — I've never had an issue with anyone. I play on the rougher side, but I'm fair and fun, and I'm great at reading my playmates' energy. I also adore the 7-year-old daughter of the shelter owner — I'm gentle with her and happy to be included in whatever's going on.

I haven't been tested with cats yet, but there's a chance I'd chase them if they ran — we're happy to test that if needed. Overall, I'm just a super outgoing, affectionate, and friendly girl who has completely left her sad past behind.

I've been fully vaccinated, spayed, and vetted. Physically, I'm in great shape and emotionally? I've made a total transformation. I'm not the dog who needs weeks to warm up — I'm the kind of girl who's ready to love you on day one.

If you're looking for a happy, playful, goofy, snuggly adventure buddy who's been through the fire and come out the other side stronger and shinier — I might just be your girl.

With love, cheekiness, and lots of kisses,
Tula

If you are interested in FOSTERING, click on the Foster Button and fill out the online Foster Application
If you are interested in ADOPTING, click on the Adopt Button and fill out the online Adoption Application
Check out our VOLUNTEER Opportunities here https://www.surfersforstrays.org/get-involved

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
