Tula's Story

Specialist Needs Senior

Tula is ready for adoption

Tula is a very calm wirehaired terrier who weighs 15# and is 10 years old approximately. We have listed Tula as a special needs girl due to her being very shy and reserved. Tula will also need a multi dog household to feel safe.

Tula came from a hoarding situation. She is most comfortable around other dogs. Adjusting to a different way of life has not been easy for Tula. She much prefers dogs to people. Her new family will need to have a lot of PATIENCE with her. I've found that when she lays by me on the couch she is more excepting of pets and love, but again this took a long time to happen. Tula also will need to drag a leash until she learns the routine in your home. She is not completely housebroken. She will use potty pads, but sometimes misses the pad. If you are still reading then here is her other little quirk. Those of us that personally know Tula can honestly say feeding her or even just getting her to eat has been challenging to say the least. We all feel that she most likely was fed people food. After trying many different types of food I introduced her to Fresh Pet chicken and vegetables. She LOVES IT! Her future home will need to be willing to either cook her meals or continue with the diet she is currently eating. Tula will also require a fenced yard.

Tula may sound like she is a high maintenance girl and truthfully I guess she is, but once you gain her trust it's so rewarding. Tula has done ok around my grandchildren and they respect her space. I've seen her initiate play, but she is a little awakard if they accept her invite. I have hand fed Tula and I do believe it helped create a bond with her. It really is all the little things you do everyday that show her she is safe. The number 1 thing Trula needs to thrive is a fear free environment.
