Truffles's Story
Updated
Dog Name: Truffles
Breed: Lab mix
Sex: female
Age: Approx 3yo
Weight: 55 lbs approx.

Medical Needs:
Truffles is literally allergic to everything. When she arrived from Georgia, she had mange. She has recovered, however, she continues to have skin allergies. She takes 1 fish oil supplement pill twice daily along with 1 Solliquin (2 if she will be in a stressful environment) twice daily and a half of Apoquel (16mg) once a day.
Also, Truffles is on a salmon grain free food due to her allergies.
For Flea and Tick prevention, she takes Credelio.
Additionally, when she is experiencing a skin flare up, she takes medicated baths twice weekly.

Housebroken: Yes

Crate trained: Yes, her crate is her happy place. She will only willingly leave her crate to go outside with her bestie. If her bestie doesn't go outside, Truffles will bark and return to her crate. You cannot stand near her crate or the door, otherwise, she won't go out or come in.
She will allow you to climb in her crate for scratches and love but will not willingly leave crate for attention. Occasionally, she will venture out for treats, but not consistently. She will allow us to carry her to the couch, and will lay quietly in your lap while getting lots of love.

Good in the car:
Yes, she will tolerate riding alone for short rides but for longer than a half hour she becomes anxious. However, if her bestie is along, she'd ride across country.

Good on a leash:
Truffles has made amazing progress, however we still use a chain leash and prong collar as she occasionally will still decide she doesn't wish to cooperate.

Energy level: medium

Need a fenced in yard: Yes, Truffles is no fan of leashed walks. She loves to race and play with her resident bestie and other resident dogs.

Dog Friendly: Yes. She lived her whole life with other dogs, and takes great solace with having friends. Truffles can be a bit rough playing, but loves all our dogs.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive?

Absolutely, over the past almost two years, Truffles has made a lot of progress, but needs the confidence of a friend, to know that you can be trusted.

Cat Friendly?
She is fine with our dog savvy cats

Kid Friendly: Unknown

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Kids old enough to give her space and understand that Truffles is a special girl who is not interested in attention. Truffles does not do well with lots of noise and activity so a home without young children would be best. Best suited for children 12- Up.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Truffles was rescued from a horrific abusive hoarding ‘rescue' situation in Georgia, where she lived in an outdoor pen with numerous other dogs, and was literally feral when she was pulled. Since arriving, Truffles has made great progress, but she will never be an affectionate carefree dog, and needs an adopter who understands her needs and patience. Truffles will require another dog in the home to ease her transition. Adopter must live in a single family home, as Truffles loves to bark!
Adopting Truffles will require multiple meets until Truffles feels comfortable with her adopter.

Fosters Location: Harrington, DE

Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app
