Troy's Story
Troy is a 7-year-old Spaniel/Shih Tzu mix with a fun personality. He weighs 18 lbs and is very compact measuring 12” to the top of his shoulders. He has a beautiful silky tri-colour coat, and he enjoys being brushed. His white plume of a tail never stops wagging. He is being fostered in Waterloo with two other dogs of similar age, and he gets along well with them.

He was surrendered to Speaking of Dogs when his owner was no longer able to care for him. He’s recently recovered from cosmetic surgery to remove a growth from his head, and he has had a dental cleaning. His vaccines are all up to date and he is microchipped. He’s a very confident guy overall and adapts well to new situations. He likes to announce himself by barking at strangers at first but quickly settles down when asked.

He is good with older children. Troy is a little too interested in cats for their liking. He is prone to barking when seeing people or dogs outside but responds to a "quiet please" command. He walks well on the leash and enjoys being outside. He can be left for several hours on his own in the house and is not destructive at all. He comes when called by name and knows the “sit” command.

Troy is housetrained and relieves himself outside on walks, in the fenced backyard or uses a pee pad. He’s eating a mixture of both soft food and kibble and enjoys treats occasionally. Troy sleeps on dog beds, sofas or people beds. He sleeps peacefully through the night. He enjoys an afternoon snooze and sometimes has the cutest little snore. His preferred home would be with someone who is home a good part of the day and would work with him on his alert barking manners. He would be fine as an only dog or sharing a home with another dog of similar size and age. He is happiest when near his people and can’t wait to find his new forever home.
