Meet Trooper: Your New Best Friend Looking for a new jogging buddy? Look no further than Trooper Maxwell. As a young, athletic pup, I love to run, play, and explore. I'm also a gentle and friendly fella who loves meeting new humans and dogs alike—and I'll even give you a big ol' smile when we meet! I am curious about the world around me and love to sniff and investigate. I'm an all-around good boy and I'm looking for a family to call my own. If you're looking for a fun-loving and curious pup, you can begin the process by applying at www.k9ei.dog Trooper's Traits Age and Size: He’s roughly 2 years old and a smaller medium-sized dog, weighing in at around 60 lbs. My DNA test showed me to be a American Staffordshire/American Pitbull and then a bunch of crazy breeds no one expected at lower percentages. He is absolutely adorable in looks, shorter legs, whipping tail, wiggling butt with bright eyes and a smile. New Experiences: Trooper does not seem to have been exposed to much, so everything seems new to him. His two foster dogs loved him immediately, and they are helping him learn what normal is. He would benefit from a home with another dog to show him the ropes, not looking to dominant him. Eager Learner: Trooper wants to please, so he’s very eager to learn. He knows sit and shake, walks nicely on lead, knows “place”, and down. A training class with his new owners would go along way to build a working relationship to help guide him. Friendly Nature: He is submissive and will get along with anyone, dog or human. He does not show any sign of food aggression or guarding. When he was at the shelter he lived with a fellow housemate in the same kennel. Training Needs: Trooper is not potty trained, but we are confident we will get that down quickly in his foster home with other dogs showing him the way. Trooper came from a poor situation where he was kept outside in a kennel, then went to the shelter and spent 24/7 in a cage. Living in a home is new to him and he needs to be taught to only potty outside. Loyal Companion: His foster lives on 27 acres and has had Trooper outside off leash. He wants to be with dogs or humans, so he shows no signs of running away. He comes when called and follows the other dogs to potty and return. Sweet and Snuggly: Trooper is a very sweet and snuggly boy. Though timid and submissive, once he’s potty trained, he’ll be a great addition to any family! He loves to be close, craves pets and belly rubs, after spending his early life kenneled outside, human interaction is important to him. K9 Enrichment Initiative, Inc.'s Adoption Policy

K9 Enrichment Initiative fosters, and adopters must be within 60 miles of our home base in Plainfield, IL. (Exceptions made regarding special needs dogs, the adopter and with the board's consent) How to adopt a dog from the K9 Enrichment Initiative, Inc. 1. Complete our online application. https://k9ei.dog/portfolio/apply-now-to-foster-adopt/ 2. Donate $10 towards the processing of your application. The accounts are HTTPS://BIT.LY/K9EI4LIFE or www.venmo.com/K9EI4LIFE If a dog is not placed with you at the time of applying, your application will be held for a year. You can simply email me us applications@k9ei.dog and ask that your application be reviewed for another dog. 3. Your application will be processed, including a vet check, personal reference, and criminal background checks. A telephone interview will be conducted as well as a home visit most commonly with the dog you are interested in adopting. 4. The dog will be introduced into your home for 14 to 21 days, allowing time for adjustment. At the end of that time, if the match is perfect for the family as well as the dog, an adoption contract is signed. This allows the dog to assimilate to the new environment and for the bonding process to begin for both the dog & family. We have a $500 donation fee for dogs under 1 year old with a non-refundable deposit of $250 on puppies under 6 months. $400 for 1-7 years, $300 for 7-10 years, dogs over 10 years will be assigned adoption fee based on health. All dogs are spay/neutered, microchipped, up to date on core vaccinations appropriate to age, and on preventatives. Applicants must be 21 years of age, be financially able to support the dog's everyday needs as well as medical expenses, be physically and mentally capable of caring for the dog. If you do not own your residence, you must provide documented proof from your landlord stating the dog is welcome to live at the residence. Some dogs will require a fenced yard based on their personality and past history. We weigh the needs of the dog carefully and look to place the dog in the best fit possible. Often a dog chooses their family and makes it pretty obvious quickly if they are comfortable or not. All dogs under 1 year of age are required to attend Force Free/Fear Free training with their new adoptive family at their expense as part of the contract. Dogs older than 1 year old who are in need of training based on their past lives will be required to attend training classes. Applicant must have knowledge of the breed of dog they wish to be considered for adding to their family.
