Trixie's Story

Border Collie / Idaho Shag Mix | ~4 years oldTrixie is a very special girl with a huge heart for people. She is extremely loving toward all humans and thrives on companionship. If you’re looking for a dog who truly wants to be by your side, Trixie is your girl. Her bright eyes and constantly wagging tail make it impossible to have a bad day around her.

Trixie recently completed the New Hope / Powder Pals Prison Dog Training Program, where she worked daily with trainers using positive reinforcement only. She learned over 20 cues, is very intelligent, eager to learn, and loves having a job to do. She is house trained, crate trained, spayed, up to date on vaccines, and will let you know when she needs to go outside.

As an active Border Collie mix, Trixie needs daily exercise and mental stimulation. She enjoys leash walks, learning new skills, and her favorite activity of all — playing in water sprinklers! A well-fenced yard and an engaged owner will help her thrive.

Trixie bonds deeply with her person and prefers to be the only dog in the home, at least initially. She can be reactive around other dogs, especially high-energy or female dogs, and should be walked with care in areas where other dogs are present. With continued training, she has shown progress, but she will do best in a home that can manage these situations confidently. She has met male dogs while in our care and has done great! She also LOVES kids! She will sit and give you full body wiggles!

She should also be in a cat-free home due to prey drive.

Trixie may have a bit of a stubborn streak at times, but she responds best to creativity, encouragement, and positive motivation — never force. She is loyal, affectionate, and wants nothing more than to share her life with her person.

Trixie is ready for her forever home and her next chapter.

If you’re an active, dog-savvy home looking for a devoted companion, Trixie could be the perfect match.
