Trish's Story

Meet Trish, a sweet adult dog with a reserved but charming personality. Trish may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once she feels comfortable, she reveals her gentle, friendly nature. Her telltale signs of trust include greeting you with a relaxed body, curiously sniffing your hand, and offering soft eyes that hint at the loyal companion she’s meant to be. Trish is affectionate and enjoys petting, occasionally nudging you for more attention. She may get a bit jumpy during moments of excitement, but she’s always manageable and responsive. During mealtimes and when enjoying treats, Trish shows some minor guarding tendencies. She prefers to have her space and does best in a quiet environment while eating. With simple accommodations, such as feeding her without interference, this behavior is easy to manage. While Trish warms up beautifully to people, she has shown that she prefers to be your one-and-only dog companion. During introductions to other dogs, she has displayed tension and discomfort. While she may share polite initial greetings, she’s quick to establish boundaries and prefers not to share her space with other pups. For this reason, Trish will thrive as the only dog in her home. Potential adopters should be ready to provide a patient, structured environment that gives Trish the time she needs to decompress and adjust to new situations. We recommend slow, controlled introductions during transitions, as well as working with a trainer to reinforce positive behaviors and ensure her success in her new home. Trish is seeking a quiet, loving home where she can be adored for the wonderful dog that she is. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key companion who will form a deep bond with you over time, Trish might be your perfect match. With patience, love, and guidance, Trish is sure to blossom into the loyal and devoted companion you’ve been searching for! Are you ready to give Trish the warm, caring home she deserves?

Thanks to the Friends of Fairfax County Animal Shelter, Trish has a $500 Senior Pet Credit Voucher for Pender Veterinary Centre (not valid at other practices), to help her adopters get her set up for success in her new home. This can be used for labwork, medications, exam fees, or anything else that Trish needs to get her settled with her new family. Also, her adoption is fee-waived!

This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff.

Be sure to check the "shelter information" box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt
