Tree's Story

Tree the Dog

Tree is a mature female Shepard Husky mix dog. She came to New Hopes prison dog training program March 21 2026. She was part of a local hoarding case. New Hope worked with Tree while she was in boarding, some 3 months, where upon she entered the Powder Pals Program. Aside from several favorite vet assistants, it took that time for her to reduce her anxiety and trust the New Hope people offering to walk her and train her. And to her credit she walked into a prison full of strangers and on to her new kennel home. 4 months later she is sufficiently trained and ready for her forever home. She knows 13 cues / commands and is potty trained. She also has shown she values her trainers and is very lovingly attached to being with them.
Having said that, she is slow to warm up and trust strangers. The trust must be earned through patience, no force, and accommodating her needs and feelings daily. It takes time for her to build that trust, given what appears to be a background of lacking socialization earlier in her life, and likely neglect. Tree has shown her trainers she wants a full rewarding forever life with someone or a family. In return one will find a loyal dog who is very loving, and wants to be with you.
Tree is good with people she establishes trust with. It is important to understand this could take days or weeks to accomplish this, her warming up to the person. We suggest no fast-moving children or impatient people in her life. A key feature of her person is that persons willingness to understand and consider her needs, along with their own needs daily. She is a dog willing to share, not a dog at ones disposal and direction based on the persons needs only. Tree does accommodate dogs, most dogs, provided there is a formal dog to dog intro done and the dog is kind. We do not suggest small animals around her. Tree will continue to benefit from more socialization around people. She wants to please, but must have the space and experience to trust humans.
She is a easy going dog energy wise. She enjoys her leash walks. Jogging, not so much. She equally enjoys laying around with her person simply sharing companionship.
Her ideal placement is a quiet, loving home environment that is stable and supportive to her. Supportive in understanding how her past affects her, and is willing to her work through it with positive reinforcement. She will become loyal to her person and reward you with quality love and companionship. The patience part is her skittishness around new people and new things. She will alarm bark at times until she adjusts. She also needs a secure fenced yard, preferably 6 foot tall. This is so if something scares her, she will be prevented from climbing or jumping up and escaping. If you are looking to invest in a meaningful relationship and making a difference in a dogs life, a dog that wants and deserves that, please give Tree consideration.
Tree is healthy and current on all vaccinations. She is also spayed and microchipped. Her date of birth is 7/6/2018
