I’m such a good boy. I have a happy, enthusiastic style, a super sweet nature, and once we get to know each other, I’ll likely wiggle my way right into your heart...and your lap, if you let me! All I need in life is my chance to shine. I will take it from there. I can’t wait to be your dog.

I’m a darling, 2 1/2-year-old, 44-pound Hound mix, with the softest fur ever, a tail that never stops wagging, a cute, expressive face, and an exuberant, friendly, delightful personality. I’m even already housebroken. I’m quite a remarkable little guy, when you consider my life and everything I’ve been through. I’ve been homeless for way too long. I was transferred to Wayside what seems like a lifetime ago from a shelter in Hawaii that didn’t have space for me. Maybe being a native Hawaiian is the reason why I’m not fond of the cold Midwest winters here in KC. Brr! The long trip to start my new life was confusing and scary yet exciting at the same time. I was diagnosed with dry eyes, so I will need eye drops and regular vet visits for the rest of my life. The good news is that my eye drops make my eyes feel so much better, and I don’t mind getting them put in. Sadly, here at Wayside, I seem to keep getting passed over for adoption. No one can figure out why, because I’m such a nice friend. Meanwhile, I was able to spend a few glorious weeks in a loving foster home as I wait for you to find me. It was such a nice break from shelter life! I’m back at Wayside now, rejuvenated and ready for you! I hope you come for me soon.

Life in my foster home was incredible! I didn’t have accidents and I could be trusted to roam free in the house even when no one was home. Please give me a little extra time to get settled in and to learn which things are mine, though. I’ve been through so much change and instability in my short life, so I appreciate a little patience and understanding. I loved playing with my toys, especially the squeaky and chew toys, but I occasionally picked up a shoe, mistaking it for a toy. Oops, these things just take time to learn. I am smart and eager to please, so if you train me using positive reinforcement, I will quickly learn what you expect from me. At night, I slept on the couch or in the bed with my foster parents. Ah, a quiet, safe, soft spot to sleep was pure luxury to a dog like me! In the mornings, I liked to wake up Foster Mom with kisses and play and a wagging tail. We’d make a quick trip outside to go to the bathroom before bounding right back into bed for a few more hours of sleep. I loved having such a fun routine!

I’m friendly and affectionate with everyone I meet. Foster Mom’s favorite thing about me was that I love so hard with everything I’ve got. In foster, it was so exciting to have visitors stop by, and sometimes I was jumpy, but it was easy to redirect me with treats. With Foster Mom, I would stand right up next to her giving her kisses before curling up as close to her as possible for cuddles. Chilling on the couch in the sun felt so good, but I was always ready for fun and adventure too. I enjoy exercise, hiking, exploring new places, and taking leisurely walks where I can let my nose lead the way. I am a hound, after all! I walk great on my leash, happy to greet new people and dogs along the way.

We had a chain link fenced yard in my foster home, where I loved to spend time running and playing and exploring, especially when the weather was nice and warm. I managed to escape the yard once, so Foster Mom closely supervised me after that. If you have a fenced area, please be sure that it is safe and secure for me. I lived with another dog in foster who I loved very much. In the beginning, we happily coexisted together. Once I got more comfortable, I would try to engage him in play, even though he wasn’t always interested. I’ll be happiest with other dogs who are playful and tolerant, and I’ll need to meet them before we go home together, to make sure that we’re a great match. I also enjoy playing with many new dog friends here at Wayside! I hope to find a home without cats, though, because they’re just a little too interesting to me. I will thrive in a home with kind, caring people who will make me an important and involved member of the family. I want to be right in the center of all the fun!

I’m the perfect combination of an active adventurer mixed with a homebody snuggle buddy. And I’m ready to do all the things that families do together. It’s been lonely being passed around my whole life. I’m ready to finally know that I am home for good. Ah, that sounds so nice to me. Let me show you how it feels to be loved unconditionally. I’m ready to do that for you and so much more. My bags are packed, and I’m ready today to start the next chapter of my life as your beloved dog.

Love, Travis
