Tozi (courtesy post)'s Story

This is a courtesy post dog does not live at the sled dog rescue, has a personal owner, which we will provide contact info for upon interest.

Tozi is a gentle sweetheart. She loves all people and children. She is incredibly playful- especially with other dogs. More than anything, Tozi loves to run! She is always up for any adventure, like going for long hikes, runs, XC skiing, backcountry skiing in the mountains, or anything that gets her moving outside. She is an excellent skijoring and bikejoring dog and has been known to run or skijor for over 20 miles at a time. Tozi loves snow and is great at playing and running through it all day long without any problems with her paws or coat. When it's really bitterly cold, she does well with musher's wax on her paws and a winter jacket. She was born a sled dog, coming from Alaskan musher Joe Biefelt, grand-nephew of legendary musher George Attla. She gets along with almost every dog, although she has occasionally shown aggression around food or when new dogs enter her house. She loves to play at and has done really well at dog daycare and boarding. She loves to be off-leash, running and playing, and her recall is mostly reliable; however, she responds well to the tone of an e-collar when she becomes distracted by something of interest. She has done incredibly well with both a wireless fence system and a buried wire fence system. She loves to be outside as much as possible and will stay within her boundaries. She is mostly very quiet, except for occasionally barking at deer or other animals on the property. Otherwise, you wouldn't hear a peep from her. She is very independent in nature, but is also very loving to her people. Tozi is not a snuggly dog, but she will want to be near her person/people. The three main words that I would use to describe Tozi are: sweet, adventurous, and athletic

NH Sled Dog Rescue, History & Education Center's Adoption Policy
Our Adoption Process: Step 1 - Complete and submit an adoption application. A completed application helps our staff get to know you better and introduce you to dogs that would do well in your home (or ensure that the dog you are interested in would be a good fit). Once we receive this information, we can then schedule an appointment for you to come meet our adoptable sled dogs. Step 2 - If you decide to move forward with adopting one of our sled dogs we begin processing your application (ie: checking references that you provide, reaching out to your vet etc). We also request a few nonintrusive home photos to get an idea of where the dog will play, sleep, eat etc. Step 3 - If your application is approved we then schedule a health certificate appointment (and spay/neuter surgery is necessary). Step 4 - You get to welcome your new four-legged friend! Please note that in general, our adoption process takes 2-4 weeks depending on how quickly we receive feedback from your references and how soon we can get the lucky four-legger in for any necessary vet appointments. We DO NOT do same day adoptions and all potential adopters are required to to do a meet and greet prior to adoption day. Our adoption fee (as of January 2022) is $250 and includes: a health certificate, microchip, updated Bordetella, DHLPP, and rabies vaccines. Dogs will also be spayed/neutered if not already altered.
