Toto's Story
This cute 2-year-old terrier mix has quite the story. After spending time on the run as a stray in Red Wing, he was safely live-trapped on December 26th. Shelter life proved overwhelming for him, and he began to shut down from fear and stress. Thankfully, he got a second chance when he moved into a foster home with Camp Companion, where he's now been learning for nearly seven months what it means to feel safe.

And what a difference those months have made! Toto's personality is finally starting to shine, and this boy is goofy, silly, and incredibly happy. He absolutely adores other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion to show him the ropes. He peacefully coexists with cats and mostly ignores them. He's also discovered the joy of toys and loves to play when he's feeling comfortable.

One of Toto's biggest milestones is that he now allows his foster mom to pet him-and he absolutely loves it! He's learning that human touch can be a wonderful thing and is becoming more comfortable seeking out affection and connection. His playful personality and happy spirit are coming through more and more as his confidence grows.

Toto can still be a little nervous around people and may become startled by fast movements or sudden activity. He's continuing to work on leash training and potty training, and he'll need someone who understands that building confidence takes time. He does best with patience, consistency, and a calm, predictable environment. Because he can still be easily frightened, a home without young children is required.

A home with another confident, friendly dog and a securely fenced-in yard will be required to help Toto continue building confidence and succeed in his new environment.

Toto has come such a long way during his time in foster care, and now we're hoping to find the family who will help him take those final steps. He's proof that patience can transform a scared, shut-down dog into a happy, goofy boy who is discovering just how much he loves being part of a family.

If you're willing to give Toto the time and patience he needs, you'll get to experience something incredibly special: watching a shy dog discover his personality, learn to trust, and realize that life-and people-can be pretty wonderful.

Adoption fee: $450 plus tax.
Apply at www.campcompanion.org
