Tot's Story

When responding, please tell us about yourself such as home, yard/fence, family, work hours, previous dog experience. We do have an application at sparrowdogs.com.

They call him Tot, as in Tator Tot, because he is just a little spud of a dog-just 20 pounds, and cute as a button.(his foster family is working on putting some weight on him!) If there had not been a DNA done on Tot, we certainly would have never guessed some of those breeds!! Although he is mostly Shih Tzu, he certainly doesn't look it, so we put down Chihuahua mix, perhaps Chihuahua/Pit? Would that make him a Chipit?

Well, whatever Tot is, he is a cute little guy. But, looking into those sad eyes you can see the pain and perhaps the distrust. Tot grew up in a drug house, yes, you can just imagine the horror that he endured. Thankfully he was rescued by a good Samaritan/rescuer. And again, thankfully, he was just over a year old so surely he can put all that trauma far, far in his past with the right patient and loving home.

Tot is doing well in his foster home. He has adjusted to living with a family with other pets, people of all ages--but NO small children--although there is an older child in the home. They have had a lot of patience with Tot and let him acclimate on his own terms. A fearful dog will be distrusting, but they can come around and love. It takes a special person, someone kind, loving and patient and also dog savvy that can understand that this takes time. But, it is also so worth it.

Tot is young and has his whole life ahead of him. He deserves the best in life, and he is working on putting his rough start behind him. Tot will do well with an active family, he is young and playful. He will be best with female dogs. Tot is not the kind of dog that is going to warm up right away, he needs time. He is not going to be ready to snuggle in your lap upon first meeting, it may have to happen in his adoptive home. But, once he trusts you, he will love you forever.

We are looking for that someone extra special to give him that chance of a happy full life. We know you are out there looking for that extra special pal. If you have plenty of dog experience and a big heart, maybe Tot is your guy!! His adoption fee is $200. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Eye on the Sparrow's Adoption Policy
We try to make adopting a dog or cat a pleasant and fairly easy experience but also try to make the best possible fit for each dog or cat and the people involved. After being contacted by an individual we will respond with an email and attach an application as well. We will follow up with any questions or concerns and will do a phone consult as well. Remember all or our dogs are at volunteer foster homes and we do our best to get back to any inquiries as soon as is possible. Adoption fees help defer many of expenses such as medical care or other costs incurred by the dogs and are usually around $250, although some of the dogs can be adopted for less due to sponsors, special needs and senior programs, and some of the more "sought" after breeds and puppies generally have a higher adoption fee to help (pays for the extra surgeries, meds..so we can take special needs dogs).
