Tortuga's Story

At 57 lbs, this handsome shepherd mix is a gentle giant with a thick black and tan coat that's just as beautiful as his heart. Tortuga may be a big boy, but his soul is soft and sweet. He's a loyal companion in the making, just waiting for his forever family to help him shine. Tortuga gets along well with lady doggo friends, of a similar size and energy level and happily welcomes pets and affection from his human buddies at Saving Grace. Tortuga would do best in a home with a fenced in yard as his breed mix and youth is not suited for apartment living. Cats and really small dogs are a pass for this sweet boy who has a big body and a big spirit as well. He's joined the hiking team and loves to walk and adventure in true shepherd spirit with his people. With regular exercise, stimulation, and love, Tortuga promises to give his whole heart in return. Tortuga is ready to begin his next chapter in his forever home.
*Sleepover feedback: "He's friendly and curious on walks. I was pleasantly surprised with how great he is with leash walking! He's a bigger dog but he doesn't even pull! We also did some light jogging and it was great. He kept pace with me. He did this very sweet thing where he would constantly look at me for reassurance during a walk/jog, as if making sure he wasn't going too fast for me. He had no issues with the crate and he loves sitting by the window and gazing outside".
*Additional feedback: "Loves to walk and hike, he doesn't pull on the lead but he is a brisk walker
-slept like a baby in the crate, did not resist going into the crate, did not bark or whine during the night.-very comfortable with household noises such as vacuum, blender, microwave-enjoys laying by the door and looking out windows-very calm and laid back, he's such a great dog and is going to make a family very happy"!

Saving Grace Animals for Adoption's Adoption Policy
All puppies and dogs at Saving Grace are crate trained, have been spayed/neutered, are up to date on their vaccinations, are on heartworm preventative and have been microchipped. Their adoption fee is $395.00. Each has been carefully screened for disposition and temperament in order to provide your home with a safe companion that will enjoy life as your new family member. Our Adoption Request Form can be completed online at our website at https://savinggracenc.org/adopt/. An Adoption Request Form is required before setting up an appointment to meet with a potential adoptee or a foster home. Sending an Adoption Form does not commit you to an adoption, it simply provides us with background information on potential homes. If you'd like to donate to help cover the cost of care for these wonderful dogs awaiting new homes, please visit the donate page on our website at https://savinggracenc.org/give/donate-now/. Saving Grace is a small, non-profit 501-C3 organization operated by volunteers only. Most of our animals come from rural animal control shelters where lack of space and resources limit their time and adoption possibilities. Thank you for choosing Saving Grace! We look forward to helping you find your new companion and family member.
