Topper's Story

Hello, I'm Topper! I'm a field trial greyhound and just turned five on September 28!

I am small dog safe, good with kids and teens, as well as adults. I am a friendly, happy, tail-wagging boy with lots of energy. I love, love, love to run!

With my foster family, I cannot get close enough when they are petting me. I come up to the humans sitting on the couch then lay my face on their laps to get all the pets!

I have not had any accidents and am not food aggressive. I loves running in the backyard and playing with my stuffies! I will carry them them around for a bit, get bored, then find a new stuffie and carries it around for a while... and then do it all over again, until the toy bin is empty!

My foster parents say I am good with elementary age kids (I haven't met any toddlers yet, but my field trial trainer was a teenager, so they think I will make a great family dog!) I go to doggie day care at 4Paws Lodge, where I play with the big dogs that are my size. I find the small dogs pretty annoying, with all the yapping, so I sometimes give them a little playful nip to let them know they're not my favorite. (I am not aggressive towards them! I just don't care for their attitude!)

The volunteers at my original kennel told Prison Greyhounds, "Topper is just one of the happiest guys you will ever meet. To meet him is to love him." Plus, I smile, which seems to make everyone else smile back at me!

I'd love to go home with you and have lots of adventures together, so submit an application to adopt me today!

* * * * *

Adopters must meet the following requirements:
- Live in Indiana (Western Ohio, Northern Kentucky, or Eastern Illinois may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit)
- Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old
- Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc. - sorry!)
- Fenced yard (no invisible fences)
- Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard

We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend! Topper is from Prison Greyhounds

[Indianapolis, IN]

Our Mission
Prison Greyhounds finds appropriate homes for greyhounds and greyhound lurchers. This includes retired track racers, field racers, blood donors, and the “farm” greyhounds that never raced. Most of our current dogs are greyhound lurcher mixes or "hero hounds". Lurchers are the forgotten underdogs of the greyhound world. The...
