Topaz's Story

Topaz may be recently famous because of his news story, but he’s had a humongous fan-base for years now at the local shelter. Topaz arrived at the shelter as part of a cruelty case. He spent the first years of his life at the end of a chain, and was attacked by other dogs on the property. Then, because he was considered “live evidence” Topaz lived in a kennel at the shelter for 2.5 YEARS. During that time, every shelter volunteer fell head-over-heels for the goofy, affectionate big ol’ boy. Despite his beginnings of abuse and then two plus years of loneliness, Topaz is the happiest, friendliest, most well-adjusted guy you’ll meet. He loves everyone, kids included (although we recommend older and dog savvy kids because Topaz thinks he’s a 80 pound lap dog.) He even likes other dogs, but he plays a bit rough and can be a little rude at times. Hey, he never learned how to properly play being stuck on a chain! But despite it all, Topaz is settling in to home-life quite nicely. He’s potty trained and crate trained and he thoroughly enjoys every dog toy he comes across. Everyday for Topaz is like Christmas morning— a warm home, a bin full of toys, and the love of his foster family. Now, we want to give him the best gift of all: a perfect forever home.

Topaz is about 6 yrs old. Adoption fee: $200

*Breeds are best guesses based on visual appearance, background and behavior.
