Tonka's Story

My name is Tonka.
The scars and condition of my skin tell my story of resilience from the beginning. Rescuers were working on a street spaying and neutering residents' dogs when they saw me. I was a stray, afraid to approach people, but they could see I was in awful condition. They ended up trapping me just in time. I don't think I would've survived much longer with all my wounds. They knew I needed medical attention. Not only did I have a terrible skin infection, but I had a double ear infection. They could see the scars around my neck showing an embedded chain from my previous life. There were puncture wounds on my feet and legs. I did find joy in hanging out with the other dogs on the street and was fed by one of their owners. I do really well with other dogs and I'm currently being fostered with two large dogs and one small senior. I walk great on a leash and I'm not afraid of loud noises. I am a little leery of men and it takes me a little time to warm up. I am house trained too. I would be best in a home with older children or no children. I'm not sure I have been around them before. The rescuers thought I was a lot older than I really am because I was in such rough shape. I'm only 2 1/2. I'm starting to look younger every day with my skin healing. I'm about 75 Pds. Please don’t judge a book by it’s cover. My skin may look bad and my scars, but I’m healing and I am a sweet boy who will make a great companion.
Text 803-389-8858
