THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application Meet Terrific Tomatoes- Virginia, a 5-year-old year old male Goldendoodle, who is in an IDOG foster home in Centreville, Virginia. *Please read ALL the information in Tomatoe's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home. *Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser). *If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Tomatoes, please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org. *You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted. *We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog. *You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs. *AGE: 5 years old (born July 2020) *WEIGHT: 50 lbs. *FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required as we feel this would help set him up for success. No electronic/invisible fences, or e-collars will be allowed. *COAT TYPE: curly low shedding Poodle coat. He will need regular brushing and grooming to prevent his coat from matting. You should be prepared to have him groomed regularly (every 8-10 weeks) with an estimated cost of $120/groom. *ENERGY LEVEL: Medium happy energy! Tomatoes loves his walks! He would thrive in an environment where he can join on walks with his favorite people. He is also happy to lay beside you quietly for hours at a time. *DOGS: Tomatoes is very dog friendly! He loves all other dogs. He has played with neighbors dogs on occasion, and has done great at doggie daycare! *CATS: He used to live with two cats and did great with them. He currently does not live with a cat in his foster home. *KIDS: Tomatoes loves kids and lived with younger kids in the past. *CAR: Tomatoes does great in the car and loves to go for rides! *CRATE: Yes! Tomatoes is quite comfortable in the crate. *HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! *LEASH: Tomatoes would thrive learning more leash manners. He likes to pull but also really wants to be a good dog. *AT THE VET: *AT THE GROOMER: His previous owner groomed him at home. He hasn't been to the groomers with this foster, but he does well when trimming his fur on his feet as well as wiping feet. Terrific Tomatoes is a 5 year old Goldendoodle who weighs 50 lbs.; he was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who loved him very much but had a lifestyle change and wasn’t able to provide him with the amount of exercise and activity he needed. Tomatoes is a happy guy who is very sweet, loving, energetic, and playful! Tomatoes would do best in a home where his people are active and around. He loves to be next to his people. He needs play time and exercise to burn his energy. He just wants to be a part of it all! Tomatoes would love to work on some leash manners and pulling. He will thrive in a home that would be willing to work on them and re-enforce the rules. He loves playing in the yard and exploring. He needs good outlets including lots of playtime, daily walks, and positive training. He adores love and attention and is doing great with more socialization! At least an hour a day of exercise (even if broken up to smaller amounts thru the day) helps him be the very best version of himself. He would love to be with another dog but could easily hang solo. He isn't crated but left loose in the confined kitchen in his foster home and has done great. He has been left up to 5 hours alone and did great (especially with after a long walk!) Tomatoes get very excited at times and would thrive in a home where clear boundaries are set. He would mount everyone he met in the beginning of fostering, but he's much better now that boundaries have been set. He would try to chew/eat harness but it's better! Activities Tomatoes enjoys/does well: Tug, fetch, hiking, running, chew toys, cuddling, playing with other dogs. Positive traits: Best cuddler in the world. He is a super great dog! Negative traits: Leash/harness eating, minor humping. He knows sit, and is learning stay. More training to help him be a better listener would help immensely. Waylon is neutered, house trained, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal negative. ADOPTION FEE: $575 ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION: Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues. BEFORE YOU APPLY Please consider all aspects before applying to adopt a dog. Rescue dogs usually come with a few issues and we prefer applicants that have realistic expectations and dog experience. We prefer a physical fence in most cases but will consider this on a case by case basis. Please read through all the information on our website before completing the application. To adopt one of our dogs you MUST first complete our online application. We do require an interview. In addition, a home visit will be required. We only adopt dogs to families who will keep them as inside pets. If you are not willing to work with your new rescue dog and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of our dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog. Rescuing a dog is a lifetime commitment and if you give your all, you will get a great friend in return. They need time and patience. WHO WE ARE IDOG Rescue is a national U.S. foster-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and has remained in good standing with the IRS since 2006 when IDOG was created. IDOG has been offering rescue and rehome services to Doodles, Standard Poodles and Poodle mixes since 2006. We have helped over 3,700 Doodles and Poodles to date. IDOG Rescue was the first specific rescue for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles and is endorsed by both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Goldendoodle Association of America. IDOG is an approved Rescue Partner in shelters across the country and has an outstanding reputation for helping Doodles in need, no matter what color, age or health status. LOCATION OF DOGS IDOG has dogs in foster homes all over the U.S. Please see the location listed in the dog's name (for example, Toby-TX is located in a foster home in TX). In most instances, you will be required to live within driving distance of where the dog is located and to visit the dog in person. IDOG does not ship or transport dogs unless this option is stated in the listing. Shipping is stressful on the dog, and stressful for the volunteer who has to spend many hours preparing the dog and the paperwork, transporting and waiting at airports. It is not simply a matter of paying the shipping charge. We will only ship a dog if we cannot find it a home near where it is being fostered. ADOPTION FEES All of our IDOGs have an adoption fee that is non-negotiable and non-refundable. OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. We will require the adoption fee be paid prior to or when we transfer the IDOG to its new family. The adoption fee helps IDOG with the expenses related to the care of all of the dogs in our program and is not directly tied to the expenses incurred for that particular dog. Adoption fees allow IDOG to continue doing our life-saving work as we are 100% dependent upon adoption fees and donations to cover the costs of the dogs in our care. Each dog is assessed individually to determine the adoption fee. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming, and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs, or are heartworm positive. Adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, core vaccines, fecal test/dewormer, heartworm testing, heartworm/flea/tick prevention and microchipping. All IDOGS are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption.
