Born 6/30/25, one of the 4 members of "The Boy Band". Brother to Kikkoman, Mochi and Miso. Tofu is a handsome, sweet, and extra-cuddly Chihuahua/Dachshund/Jack Russell mix (?); he’s smart, eager to learn, and just a tiny bit stubborn-does not like to go into his crate. Tofu is very affectionate and thrives on human connection. He loves pets, snuggles, and lap time, gives kisses on command, and will hug you when he is in your lap. He’s more of a homebody and people-person than an independent explorer, making him a good fit for an apartment or a home with a small (or even no) yard as long as he gets a few daily walks, chew toys, and ongoing training. He can be a little shy with adult strangers at first, but with gentle encouragement he engages just fine. He seems to prefer women over men. His foster parents always crate him when they leave home. At night, he prefers sleeping with his humans instead of being crated. Tofu does very well at the dog park, steering clear of any trouble. At home, he may give a warning growl if his foster sister (elderly chihuahua) gets too close to his food. This guy *LOVES* to eat! He eats both dry and wet food, carrots, blueberries, bananas, apples, peanuts. He walks well on a leash and responds well to consistent, calm leadership. He uses the same pee/poop spot in the yard, is trained to use indoor pee pads, and prefers shorter walks. Potty training is a work in progress. He’s used to going out every 4–5 hours and is currently wearing a belly band as he still marks furniture indoors, but this is expected to improve after he’s neutered. Tofu knows sit, stay, drop down, and “drop it”, especially when a treat is offered. He needs at least one good chew toy and guidance about what’s not for chewing. All fabric and plastic items, including cell phones and zippers are tempting until he learns otherwise. He’s excellent in the car (no vomiting) and rides happily in a small-dog car seat, though he’s very eager to jump out when the hatch opens and needs a firm “stay” until released. He’s still learning all about city life, including loud noises, buses, big cars, and going into stores. Energy-wise, Tofu is more mellow than most puppies. He enjoys occasional zoomies, short games of fetch, and playing with your hair, or a game of chase with you. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who wants to be always close to you and share a cozy life, Tofu might be your perfect match. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
