He struts beautifully on leash, knows his basic commands like sit, down, and paw, and is always ready to show off his smarts for a treat. Belly rubs? Yes please. Chew toys? Heaven. And while he’s selective about who he shares space with, he actually loves big dogs once he feels safe. They speak his language and help bring out his playful side.<br/><br/>Life hasn’t always been fair to Tofu. After being surrendered, he was attacked by another dog in the shelter. Though he healed physically, the experience left him cautious around new dogs. Because of that, he dreams of a calm, understanding home where introductions are slow and respectful, or where he can be the one and only pet if that’s what feels right. The good news is that on walks he’s calm, respectful, and unfazed by barking dogs passing by. He just wants to keep moving with his person.<br/><br/>Like a teenager working through his feelings, Tofu sometimes spins or chases his tail when he’s unsure. But each day, with love and routine, he grows more confident, leaving those old habits behind. He loves car rides, is a champ for baths, and even enjoys cooling off on the first step of a pool.<br/><br/>Tofu’s heart is ready. He’s waiting for a patient, loving family who will make him feel safe and show him that the world can be good. Once he trusts you, he’ll be your shadow, your partner, your protector, and your very best friend.
