Tobias's Story

TOBIAS MUST HAVE A FULLY FENCED YARD!!!!

Tobias Update: > Tobias is getting braver every day. He is reliably house-trained although he sleeps in a crate at night. He is quiet at home and well-behaved when he goes to work with me. He is good with our cat and really likes dogs, especially puppies. He will allow people he knows well to pet him, and he can go for leash walks in town without getting scared (except for leaf-blowers). He is still afraid of the kids, loud noises and sudden movements. If he gets scared, he will hide or bolt but he comes back in a few seconds. He isn't good on invisible fence, but he does well in a fenced yard or with leash walking. Tobias would be a good fit in a quiet household with other pets.

TOBIAS ia a 1 year old neutered Black Lab mix who weighs 50 pounds. TOBIAS is very scared & needs time to warm up to people

From Tobias' foster family: Tobias has been with us for about six months. He lives with mom and two boys, two dogs, some foster puppies, and a cat. He has made remarkable progress with socialization since coming to live with us. He still has a way to go, but he is able to walk nicely on a leash and mingle with people in a quiet and familiar setting. He is quiet, crate trained and enjoys riding in the car. He gets along with other dogs well, and especially likes puppies. He likes going to 'work' at a veterinary office and allows most of the staff to touch him.
His reaction to loud noises or sudden movements is to bolt towards a safe hiding place. He seems to be better with women so far. He would do well in a quiet, patient household with a fenced yard. He is about 18 months old and weighs 50 lbs. He is close to being house trained but needs some supervision.

This pet is spayed or neutered in accordance with our strict policy wherein all animals are altered prior to adoption. This pet is dewormed, current on vaccines, and started on monthly flea/tick and preventatives.

Animal Alliance does not adopt adult dogs (over 9 months old) into households with children under 9 years of age due to the risk of bites. Puppies 9 months of age or younger can be adopted into households with young children ages 4 and older. We do not adopt to families with children 3 years and younger or expectant families due to the safety risk for infants and toddlers.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY: Meetings at our Adoption Center are by appointment only (no walk-ins). An online adoption application is required and must be approved prior to meeting any animals. Adoption appointments are set up by email by our Adoption Coordinator (no phone calls, please). This process ensures our dedicated time to the animals in our care, as well as full attention to adopters at scheduled times.

Prior to submitting an application, please see the Animal Alliance Adoption Process for adoption details.

To fill out an adoption application, go to:

https://www.animalalliancenj.org/fosteradoption-application/
