Tobi's Story

This fluffy boy is ready to learn everything about how to "dog", you see, he's always just been one in a crowd of so many others all mingling, breeding, "Livin' la Vida Loca" in a home with 20+ other small dogs. No individual attention, no grooming, no special outings, just running in the group.

HISTORY
Born in Kennewick, Washington
Tobi is located in West Richland in southeastern Washington. We advertise our dogs in a variety of locations in an effort to improve their chances of finding great homes. We can assure you; this pup is well worth a road trip!

SOCIALIZATION
Until Tobi left his home to move to a foster he had likely never left his home. He was terrified enough to attempt to escape when he was being transferred into his fosters home and spent most of his summer outside in the yard. He did warm up to his foster and became willing to let her pet him and to be inside the house, coming and going at his leisure.

He's not immediately open to petting but he's definitely improved a lot. He needs more interactions and a safe place to hang out until he's fully trusting the world.

Likely all adult homes would be best as Tobi hasn't been around younger humans that we know of. Tobi currently lives in a home with his brother Palomo and 2 other small dogs that belong to a single female human who does use walkers.

This foster doesn't have a lot of visitors and those who do visit are pretty dog savvy. All attempts to engage with him result in barking and evasion of the impending doom human touch could bring although his foster has broken that barrier and he does enjoy her interactions with him.

GENERAL TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR
If you're ready for a dog who will ignore you and take his sweet time getting used to you Tobi is your guy!
He's not a high energy super active guy but does enjoy hanging outside with his brother and foster housemates. He hasnt engaged with toys much yet so this is an experience you can have with him while he's learning more about being a dog.

Tobi has been great with both foster dogs as well as his brother and the 20+ dogs in his original home. A sibling would be best for Tobi to get acclimated to his new home.

He is a fantastic "danger" alarm and will fiercely protect you from any intruders, vicious criminal types or just a grocery bag floating on the wind or stuck to your fence.

TRAINING
Tobi has not participated in any known formal training, but he is treat motivated and is learning the basics. He's not exposed to the leash due to his foster needing a walker, but he doesn't mind hiding beneath her walker waiting for food crumbs to drop for his enjoyment.

HEALTH STATUS
Tobi has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for parasites. He appears to be in good health, and weighs around 11 lbs. Based on available information, we've designated August 1, 2023 as his birthday which makes him 2 years 4 months old.

FURTHER INFORMATION
You will find more photographs in Tobi's Facebook album at: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16kZAccLrm/

Tobi's adoption fee is $400. HART (Hearthfire Animal Rescue Team)'s Adoption Policy
All our pets are in private foster homes. HART does not have a facility. For this reason, we introduce pets to potential adopters only after the adoption application has been approved. Our process involves: # A detailed application form, which must be submitted electronically # An online background check # Reference checks (calls to your vet, landlord, and at least two personal references) # Interviews with all the adults in the home (and, if the pet is intended primarily as a child's companion, we talk with the child) # A home visit, conducted at our discretion by a member of HART or a trusted rescue colleague Most of our pets are located in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco) in Eastern Washington, and we place pets only in homes within the Pacific Northwest. As needed we may arrange for a trusted member of our team to transport a pet to an adopter, at the adopter's expense. We do not ever release pets to a third party for transportation; we personally introduce every pet to their adopter. HART is a registered 501(c)3 charity. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue serving our community. We do not have an office or facility, and our team is made up only of volunteers. Our entire income goes to helping animals.
