Tinsel's Story

Meet Tinsel! Tinsel is a 1-year-old sweetheart with a gentle, thoughtful nature. She can be a little shy when first meeting new people or navigating unfamiliar situations, and she appreciates a calm, low-pressure approach while she gets her bearings. With patience and kindness, Tinsel begins to relax and that's when her affectionate side really starts to shine.

Once she feels comfortable, Tinsel enjoys being pet and spending quiet quality time with her people. She's shown that trust builds gradually, and when it does, she's happy to sit close, lean in for affection, and engage more confidently. Treats are a big motivator for her and have been especially helpful in building positive connections and encouraging her to come out of her shell.

On walks, Tinsel generally does well on leash. She may have occasional moments of pulling when something catches her attention. She can also be alert to her surroundings at times, especially in new environments and takes some time to get comfortable

Tinsel would thrive in a home that understands that confidence grows with time and celebrates small wins along the way. With patience, reassurance, and plenty of tasty rewards, she's ready to continue blossoming into a loving, loyal companion.

Tinsel at a Glance

Age: 1 year
Personality: Shy, sweet, affectionate once comfortable
Training: Does well on leash, working on confidence with new people and environments
Favorite Activities: Going for walks, eating tasty treats

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
