Thunder's Story

Thunder is around 3 years old and was rescued from a small Oklahoma shelter after finding himself in need of a second chance. Many of these small-town shelters only have a 48-hour hold before time runs out.

We were able to save him, and so many people asked about adopting him when we posted him that it still boggles my mind that he's here. Maybe they saw how beautiful he is and didn't realize what comes with a red husky.

If you've ever met a red husky, you probably already have an idea of what Thunder is like. High energy, sassy, and more personality than they know what to do with.

He's curious, busy, and always wants to know what's happening around him. During my visit to Oklahoma in May, Thunder always seemed to be aware of who was coming and going from the kennel building. It didn't matter how many times I walked by, he was paying attention.

Before long, it became a habit. I'd stop to give him a nose boop and sing "Thunder" to him like the song. I like to think he enjoyed it.

Thunder loves being included and likes knowing what's going on around him. Every new space is going to get the sniff test, and every interesting sound or movement is worth investigating. He wants to be part of the world while keeping a close eye on everything happening in it.

Thunder has a high prey drive, which means he is not a good fit for homes with cats or other small animals.

What struck me most about Thunder is that he seems like a dog who is still waiting for his person. The one who will stop for the nose boops, include him in their daily life, and finally choose him.

For the right home, Thunder will be a loyal companion with all the charm, curiosity, and larger-than-life personality that red huskies are known for.
