Meet Thora
Thora is a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees mix currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. She has been at the shelter since November 15, 2024, and is ready for her new home.
Thora went out on the Streets of Bakersfield, a foster for a day program. Here are her notes: This is THORA!
"Meet this sweet and gentle soul, a beautiful Great Pyrenees with a heart as big as her floofy tail! She’s the perfect blend of calm and playful, always ready for some love but equally happy exploring the great outdoors. Her calm, regal demeanor reflects the breed’s guardian instincts, while her gentle, expressive amber eyes convey intelligence and loyalty.
She behaved well my dog, seems to be potty-trained, never barked and often sought my attention.
Do not let her shy demeanor discourage you, she is a real gem and becomes more confident as you spend time with her."

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.
Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.
