Terence's Story
If you are looking for a loyal, intelligent, and deeply affectionate companion—and you love the process of building a true partnership with a dog—Terence might be your perfect match!

Building the deep, trusting relationship Terence has with his foster home didn't happen overnight. When he first arrived, he was reserved, confused, and hyper-vigilant. It took time, patience, and clear consistency for him to settle into a calm routine, switch off his high energy, and open up.

Any rescue dog will feel confused and reserved in a new environment. You cannot force obedience from Day 1 without creating a bond first. Terence needs an adopter who understands the reality of decompression—someone willing to give him space, establish clear boundaries gently, and let trust form naturally. Once that bond is earned, you get a loyal companion who looks to you for everything.

The Two Sides of Terence

Inside the Home: Master of the "full-body hug," loves sleeping curled up against his human, and proudly shows off his "frog sploot" on the bed. He self-regulates well, is crate-trained, and chooses his crate when he needs a cool, quiet spot to rest.

Out in the World: Terence is an enthusiastic greeter! He loves life and wants to engage with everything around him. We have been actively working on his neutrality, leash focus, and threshold control, and he thrives when given clear structure.

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
Is he good with other dogs, cats, or kids?

Other Dogs: Terence is naturally friendly with other dogs, but gets very excited to greet them when on a leash. However, when off-leash in a controlled setting, he shows great independence! During a recent stay at a doggy daycare/boarding facility with another dog present, he behaved wonderfully, settled in comfortably, and calmly did his own thing without nagging or bothering the other dog. He handles boarding stays like a champ!

Cats: He notices outdoor cats and will stare with curiosity while on leash, but he has never attempted to chase or lunge. Because his reaction to a fast-moving or teasing cat indoors hasn't been tested yet, slow, controlled introductions are recommended for homes with cats.

Kids: Terence loves people of all ages! However, because of his athletic size and enthusiastic "happy-go-lucky" energy, he might accidentally knock down very young children during play. For that reason, a home with older children or dog-savvy teens is best.
