Meet Teddy - ADOPTED!!
Meet Teddy. Teddy and his brother, Franklin, are the result of two family dogs living together who were not spayed or neutered. Their owners are older and not attentive to their dogs, who mostly live outside. They didn't even realize their female dog was pregnant, and she would have been on her own if Good Samaritans were not looking out for her. Teddy's mom dug out a bunker-type area inside an old, dilapidated shed on the property to protect and nurse her pups. She was smart to find a quiet place with cover and no traffic.
Thankfully, a Good Samaritan was watching out for her and discovered the puppies. They started feeding her and making sure she had fresh water and blankets to nurse the puppies. They kept the puppies with mom until they were six weeks old and then worked to get all the dogs released to rescue. The owners surrendered the puppies but wanted to keep their parents. They agreed to get them spayed and neutered, so there will be no more puppies, and we will continue to reach out and monitor their level of care.
Teddy is about eight weeks old and weighs 9-10 lbs. He and his brother Franklin now live together in a foster home. We think his mom is some mix of Chesapeake Bay Retriever or German Shorthaired Lab mix, and dad may be a Pointer mix with his gorgeous snow-white coat. It's so rare for us to know who both parents are, and these dogs are clearly fluffier than your typical Lab. We expect Teddy to be a large dog, about 50-65lbs when fully grown. He has already transitioned to puppy kibble and is being crate trained. During the day, both pups have a large penned area to romp and play in with access to their crate. Their foster parents have started closing the crate for short periods to get them accustomed to containment and begin the work on potty training.
This gorgeous fluffy boy needs a fun, active family ready for puppy mode and committed to training. He is very cute now but will grow to be a large, energetic dog who needs a capable handler. He really enjoys playtime with his brother, so a family with another social, playful pup in the home would be ideal for Teddy to learn from.
Preference will be given to families with:
Large dog experience
Flexible, puppy-friendly schedule
Another social dog in the home
Will only be adopted to families in the DC metro and surrounding area
Teddy is still too young to be neutered, but having him neutered at the appropriate age will be required as part of his adoption terms. We will require that proof of neuter is provided to the rescue.
Teddy will be coming to N. VA on 2/6/21 and we'd like him to go straight home.
