Tarantallegra's Story

Tarantallegra, who goes by Bingo with his foster, is a sweet and loving guy once he is comfortable and has learned to trust you. He needs an adopter with herding dog and or working breed experience, or someone who is truly prepared to put in the time and effort required. He displays these traits very prominently, and they are very common in cattle dogs, so we strongly encourage potential adopters to research the breed to be sure they are prepared. Exercise and training are extremely important, as cattle dogs were bred to work. We are wanting his future family to get him enrolled in training right away to help build his confidence and set him up for success.

Bingo can be very scared and shut down with new people and would do best in a quiet home without many visitors. He tends to bond very closely to one person, so someone who lives alone would be his ideal match. That said, he could do well in a home with more people if consistent training is done to reinforce that he does not need to protect his person. His foster is currently working on this with him, but he will need time to relearn trust with each new person he meets. Bingo prefers interactions on his own terms and needs a patient adopter who will give him space and allow him to decide when to trust.

When he gets excited, Bingo likes to try to herd, so it is important that he has a job to do along with plenty of exercise. He loves chew toys, enjoys staying busy, and is a big cuddler who likes to be right by his fosters feet. He can be reactive on leash at times, though it is inconsistent.

Bingo is a flight risk during the first few days in a new home due to his fear and how strongly he bonds to the people he has lived with previously. He has done great with large dogs and with his current fosters cat, but he has been dog selective in some cases, so slow and thoughtful introductions are important. He is fully potty trained and will tolerate the crate once he is comfortable, though the first week or so it may be difficult to get him to go inside.

Because of his trust issues, a home without kids is ideal. If you are patient, kind, and looking for a fiercely loyal companion, Bingo may be the perfect match for you.
